Roughly a week ago I was installing spacers up front and when we were testing things out for clearance and rubbing my friend noticed something wierd about my suspension:

Whenever I step on my brakes the front wheel shifts toward the back of the car by about 1", and when I start going again, it moves back to it's original position.

I inspected my tie rods, and they are fine. Everything else seems to be in order. The only answer i can come up with is that this is intentional by infiniti to enable the car to have smoother stops. Any thoughts?

I am thinking of getting aftermarket tie rods if the bushings on mine are shot.

Thanks for the help.

Mine does that too. It's a little scary to watch.

It has been like that for over 40,000 miles with no issues. I have had the suspension torn apart twice and saw nothing wrong. I'm guessing it's normal.

Don't the tension rods locate the suspension in that direction?

I'd think that they would move some but 1" seems like alot.

Maybe tech will have an answer?

Seems like lots of movement IMO. The tension rods should hold the control arms from moving pretty much at all in a forward / rearward motion. They should only move up and down. Those bushings in the tension rods are pretty stout, I could see it moving maybe like 1/4" - 1/2" if the bushings are old, but 1" seems like too much.

that's what I'm thinking too. I was able to see tiny cracks in the bushings, but no visible tears.

two things come to mind...the tension rods are probably same as S13, so theres additional 1000lbs of force being put on these things. Also my friends skyline used to do the same thing until he replaced his tension rods.

You can use S13 Tein tension rods for a more solid ride if you want. I drove AudiovisionyY33's Q which has them and they're not too bad at all. I replaced my tension rod bushings no too long ago, but when it's time again, I'm gonna switch too.

Yes! Your tension rod bushing is shot. It's time for a new one. That is the reason I've changed mine with Tien and it feels solid, tight and very responsive when making turn or stop. Feels like I was driving my Z32 again not Q45.Only down fall is I can feel every single crack and bumps on the road through my steering wheel. Now I'm used to it but in the begining I wanted to go with OEM rubber bushing for that smooth ride. I guess It's all about your prefrence.

oh feeling the road is not an issue...I'm riding on JICs stiffened up all the way and 35 series rubber...so a bit more steering wheel feedback is OK.

I guess I have more $$ to dump into this thing

Where do you source the Tein tension rods? I replaced mine 12k ago, but those sound nice.

OK I ordered myself Battle Version tension rods and while I had my CC out I decided to complete my suspension and ordered adjustable toe arms for the back...so I can finally finish up the stance of the car. Will post pics when they are available.

A bit off topic but lately my car makes a squeeling/rubber rubbing noise coming from the strut tower when I turn the wheel at slow speeds. Its coming from the rubbers that are on top of the struts (you can see them when you look at the strut towers). I have had my mechanic look at them and he finds nothing wrong. Is there a way to lubricate them?

Also when you turn your wheels back and forth are the tops of the struts supposed to move back and forth? Mine move about 0.5 inchs in either direction.

Sounds like your upper strut mounts are blown.

Can you be more specific. I bought all new struts for the car. Shouldn't of that been included? BTW mine is a touring.
