Hey everyone,

I am currently repacing my stock speakers with some 6.5 pioneer 3 ways. So i called crutchfield first off and the lady who I talked to said that none of the speakers they had would fit for the fronts.

So assuming she was wrong I bought 2 pair of the above mentioned speakers and installed them. Everything went good but I noticed the fronts were not as crisp and loud as the rears. I had to adjust the balancing on the head unit to make it sound ok. I noticed on both fronts that the grill is actually touching the island(whatever you call it) part of the speaker. So this may be what the lady at crutchfield was talking about.

So does anybody else have any a similiar experience with front speaker install? I also noticed that the grills were concave instead of convex which I guess could have been kicked inward inadverntantly. I will probably just end up modifying the platic speaker mount for the speakers to sit a little further back but just wanted to check if this is a common issue.

Also the previous owner cut the stock wiring harness for the rear speaker wires. Does anybody know what wire is what? I have a factory service manual but I am to stupid to be able to read a wiring diagram. I really appreciate any feedback.

the fronts I belive fit 5 1/4 speakers

if you go 6 1/2 then you should have gone with the 2 way or somethign so the "island" that you call it wont hit the grill

I fit some 5 1/4 components there and they sound great.. no problems at all

I have PPI's and components mean taht you have a mid/bass driver that is 5 1/4 or 6 1/2 inch and then you have the tweeter.. which are connected to a box which splits the low/hig frequency and sends the signal to the respective driver....

Thanks Anand, What do you think about just modifying the plastic speaker box so the speaker sits back further? I think I only need about 1/4 inch for it to fit and looks like there is plenty of room in back of the magnet.

yea, you can do that, just make sure you enclose the speaker box... because of you don't then you compramise the sound... especially the bass

i fit rockford fosgate 6 1/2 3 ways in mine. . .iono, maybe they are slimmer, but the "island" doesn't touch the grill or anything lol

i have Infinity Kappa 2-way 6.5 inch in the front of my S14 and they fit perfectly fine, and these things mount quite deep into the speaker 'box'.

thanks for the feedback. I actually got the pioneer 3 ways to fit in the front by removing the little platics tabs and they sit about 1/4 further back but the rears I cannot get to fit. I decided to order 4, 6 3/4, 2 ways rockford fosgates from crutchfield. They are $150 speakers on close out so I am getting them for about half price. Technically they dont quite fit the front but based on the mounting specs if I can fit those pioneer 3 ways I can definetly fit the rockford fosgate 2 ways.

Next question - Have any of you guys installed a sub and amp? Maybe I should start a new thread.

Thanks for the tip T.O 240sx, I would appreciate it if you could post some pictures of the sub enclosure placement in the trunk. What exactly are you using for sub and amp? I would like to fit the sub an amp into that space right behind the back seat but looks like a tight fit. I will start researching the technical wiring and such at a car audio forum though as you suggested.

Wow, all the edit's are a good indicator of just how hung over I am.

hey bro

trust me, the guys in the car audio section can answer all the questions you might have

as for my setup, i have 2 10" infinity 1030w in a sealed enclosure powered my a Audiobahn 8002T amp; i also have a 1 farad digital cap.the system sounds clean, it does the job for me.

the S14 has a fregin small trunk! so working with it is hard, but you're idea sounds good, i was actually thinking that but then i figured it would probably cost a lot, so i was dropped it.i will post some pics of my setup soon, i havent had the time to take some pics. check back in a few days. you will see how much room is taken up; there isnt much room left in my trunk! but its all good
