I'm getting ready to order front shocks from Scottsdale for $220. I was also going to get new boots but the mechanic doesn't think that's necessary. However, he would like to have new mounting brackets. Please advise. Thanks.

Boots incorporate the bump stops and thus must be replaced.

What does he mean by "brackets?"

There is probably other rubber like tension rod bushings that needs replacing also.

And since the rears wear out first, they and their dust boots also should be replaced. How about anti-roll bar bushings at both ends?

The "bracket" I think he is talking about is the strut mount which is the top bushing of the strut. To be honest I would just order Tokico blues off of ebay for about $330 for all four.

I think the total cost in parts for dust boots, strut mounts, and rear rubber bushings was about $550.

I hadn't considered ebay so will check. The front struts are close to the last suspension parts that I have not replaced. New rear Tokicos have already been installed. Unemployment makes cash in short supply so some of us need to do these upgrades piecemeal. Thanks.

Tokico blues with dust gators at the minimum then.
