I just had my front pads and rotors replaced under warranty on my coupe. Infiniti will replace the pads and rotors at no cost on 03 and 04 model auto coupes and sedans for 3 years or 36,000 miles.

I had put 22,800 miles on the car at the time of replacement. I noticed a slight squeak from the brakes at about 18,000 miles and it did not get worse until about 22,500 miles. From that point on the squeak got worse very quickly until they finally started to grind a bit.

So, this is just a reminder to those out there, that front pads and rotors are covered until 36,000 miles or 3 years for all 03 auto coupes and sedans.

After 28,000 miles they could hardly be worn down out of spec, could they.....?

Q rotors last nearly 40,000 miles!

They could be worn (or heat damaged). On my original 1991 Q45, with the high-performance pads, I used to change the rotors every 2 to 3 pad changes (about 32k to 35k miles, as I recall) till they went to a different pad formula. The rotors needed re-surfacing at the second and third (if it went tht far) pad changes and this was enough to drop their thickness a lot.

The G35 has excellent braking characteristics - very reminiscent of the early Q, so it is possible that the rotors do wear sooner than usual.

The whole point of Infiniti offering the free brake pad and rotor replacement is that they wear down very quickly. They would not replace the rotors unless the needed it. Once they went, they went quick. I had some squeeking in the brakes for about a month, but no real big deal and then all of a sudden it got really bad and then turned into grinding. I had to drive with grinding brakes for 2 days before either I could get in or they could get me in. They rotors looked pretty bad and the pads were really bad.

Many people with the G had to have pads and rotors replaced before 10,000 miles. I was lucky enough to last till nearly 23,000 miles. Now I have brand new pads and rotors. The new pads and rotors should not wear near as quickly as the old, but I believe that they will loose some of the braking performance of the previous pads, but not too terribly much.
