Hey all I have a 2006 M35x, 180k. Found out today that my front outer CV boots are leaking grease. I just replaced both of the front wheel bearings, and I don't think I damaged the boots but it's possible I dislodged them. I'm trying to find the new CV boots online for cheap, but all I can find are inner boots for the M35x and outer boots for the G35. Will either boot kit work on my M35x? Thanks!

Your boots just keep the grease in and dirt out..... if it was leaking chances are some dirt/dust got in which is not good.... I took mine off cause of the same problem and had the entire axel rebuilt for $100 bucks .... ... to ans your question... as long as the rubber boot is of similar size to your current one... it will work..

Rebuilt for $100, did you do it yourself?

I actually had it done at a shop.... came with a limited lifetime warranty .... whatever that means......I couldnt find an aftermarket replacement.... and dealer wanted $800 for the axel alone..... not including labor... its too.much work to get the cv joint off just to replace the boot... to later find out dirt got in and messed up the ball bearings then you have to start all over again.... I was too busy.... so I took.it.to a shop.... they took it off and sent it out to get rebuilt... then put it back on for me..... took 2 days... paid $100 to get it rebuilt and $100 to take it off and put on back on.... so total $200 .... call up your local machine shops and get some pricing to get it rebuilt.... good luck man... sorry for the long post...

I actually just ordered some boots... I change mine every now and again because of my drop I rip them often... I have the part numbers at the shop will get it to ya tomorrow... Will be cheap like $20-30 and you can do it yourself in an hour... pop old one off, clean joint use grease or lithium for new one, clamp that bish... mad easy...

It is very common for our boots to burst, especially if you are lowered... A lot of the super stanced guys in many other forums have given up on the boot issue and just replace with generic rubber boots and a ton of grease... replace when blown.

Thanks for the reply. I ordered the parts from discountinfiniti, I think they were like $28 each. Do you take the CV joint off to replace the boot? Or is there an easier way?

Believe it or not, the easiest way is to take off the joint... especially if it is torn you want to clean it well of metal shavings, dirt, etc... you can do it with the axle seated, but it is a pain in the a**...

BTW for future reference, on the M35x the part numbers for the boots are 39241-CG027 and 39741-CG028

Thanks, I'm going to try and do the repairs today. How hard is the joint to remove?

Not hard really... If you are a decent wrench it shouldnt be an issue...
