So now Im on about the 3rd time try to fix this thing.

1st time: Installed new seal, oil still leaked.

Problem: Old pulley had a scar on it that ate through the new seal.

2nd time: Genuine Nissan seal installed. Flat part facing the pulley. Grooved part facing the crank.

The seal came with assembly lube on the inner part. So I didnt need to oil it. I also replaced the OEM pulley with a ASP pulley from Enjuku.

Tightened the crank bolt down to 110lbs.

It leaked worse than ever.

3rd time:

I un-installed everything down to the bare pulley. To my suprise the pulley was loose....even when torqued to 110lbs. So this lead me to beleive the crank bolt had becomed stretched.

So to test my theory I cut about 2mm off of it and then re-installed everything (hoping that I could drive my car temporarily untill a new bolt came in). The new bolt made the pulley sit tight with no looseness at all. So the bolt was stretched, no big deal.

I then re-installed everything......and the leak was still there, just not as bad. Also, I noticed the pulley was wobbling badly at idle (I think the shortened bolt caused this).

So now Im at a loss? I have no idea what to do.

Either my crank is bad, which I hope thats not the case. (if so 8.5 to 1 here I come).

Or I need to buy a new crank bolt and seal and try the install all over again.

Also, when you guys say you need to oil the seal before install. That means you only oil the inner part of the seal and not the outer edges right?

Side note: The very front of the cranks has small nicks in it, but, its not the portion of the cranks that meats the seal. The part of the crank that spins inside the seal is fine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What I did when I replaced my seal was I used the no 2 gasket sealant around the outside edge of the seal. Good Luck!

Might try that.

Found out my problem, I think, and how dumb it is that I missed it.

Ive been missing the BIG washer that sits on the face of the pulley. It wasnt there when I got the engine, so, I had no way of knowing that it was supposed to be there in the first place.

Now that I see it, it makes too much sense.

So, I have a new seal, new bolt, and big washer.....4th attmept will start tomorrow.
