id like to upgrade my fmic. right now its 2x5x21" and the piping is 2"

i was gonna get a kit of ebay. the ones that have 3 piping and bigger intercoolers. i was wondering which kit would be closer to my ka24det. the s13 sr20 or the s14sr20 kit. it looks like the s13 cold pipe is better shaped for my s14 ka but i could be wrong. has anyone had experiene with a hybrid intercooler set up liek this?

i also found this kit that is suposed to be for the s14 ka motor. check it out its brand new apparently. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...wItem

ill also post a pic so when the auction ends it can still be viewed.

First of all, 3" piping is waaay overkill. Unless your motor is stroked out to 5 litres, you've tacked on another 2 cylinders, and are running a twin gt40 setup, it's not necessary. Usually 2.5" piping should be the max and that's sufficient to hold more power than most people want. The larger diameter of piping you use, the more space there is that the air needs to be pushed through, increasing lag.

Unless you're running 20+ lbs of boost on a regular basis, I would actually stick with the 2" piping you've got. If you're really looking to upgrade the intercooler, just grab a thicker/taller core and something close to the same length. It will save you i/c piping frustrations and some cash later on.

That looks like a GReddy, if you look at some of the pipes they say "Trust" on them. Im sure they're still knock-offs, but this IC appears to be a nice one.

idk, I'm always skeptical with stuff on eBay but it should work. Looks like a greddy core. And +1 for 2.5 piping.

i dont think the piping is 3" just states that the inlet and outlet of the intercooler are 3". you can see how some of the couplers have an increasing diameter to adapt for this

i also agree, stick with the 2" piping and dont exceed 2.5" piping. i think i could only count maybe 7 setups where i could actually see where 3" IC piping would actually prove useful. as said before, the larger piping is really only useful for those running HIGH boost levels.

that kit looks good and if i was in the market for one, i'd probably get the one from our sponsors. i think its intense motorsports and they have their entire ic kit for 350 shipped. check the advertiser's section.

Yeah, I know the kit isn't 3", but I thought he said something about upgrading to 3 piping and a bigger i/c.

I like lag Their IC are decent. Haven't heard of any problems from them for a while. Only when they first started selling them, due to shipping.

DONT GET IT!! i just got it and for a s14 with stock front bumper the innercooler is WAY too big, it sticks over a inch under the bottom of the bumper, and none of my piping fit anything, so just warning you, make sure its the right stuff.

i like the intense power one a lot. how much modifying did u have to do to the plumbing and is it on a s13 or s14?

Its for a s13 and I have not installed it yet.. Going to have to modify hot side to fit a top mount and modify the cold side a bit where it comes out of the throttle body..

What kind of fabrication you talking about? For s13 or s14?

imo..fmic is just a fmic.as long as it doesnt have massive pressure drop, it REALLY shouldnt matter.

I have seen 3" seups on 3.0 liter applications and there was no more noticable lag than with 2.5" plumbing. You have to consider that the difference in air volume is not that big.

Really the advantage to smaller diameter plumbing is less cost.

I used a large generic intercoller, and scavenged some 2.5" stainless from a local metal salvage yard, total cost was around $400 with plumbing "T" clamps and silicone.

For the record, if you're using a large IC then using 3" piping isn't going to hurt anything. All of the volume and prssure loss will be due to the large cooler dimensions. Also, using one size pipe for the length is more beneficial then using adapters. So pick a cooler that matches the piping size. If you're ever going to run big boost, simply go with larger diameter piping now, so no upgrade is needed later.

Keep in mind the TB is probably going to be everyones choking point. When in doubt, just use the same diameter as the TB.

Love You

It seems too tall and not long enough in length... will it fit the bumper gap nicely?

im thinkin on upgrading to a FMIC the same size as that one, and buying a intercooler piping kit. For the people that have used teh piping kits off ebay, was one kit enough for your 240?? s13 by the way
