Front Map lights

Is it me or do the 2 front interior lights no come on when the door is open?

The back and middle ones do but I can't for the life of me figure out how they can turn on when the door is open. They work manually when you press them. Seems odd that they wouldn't work the same as the others.

This is for a 2001 Qx4. Anyone else notice the same issue?

The front map lights can only be turned on manually. The button is only "on" or "off". The middle and rear dome lights can be made to go on manually, or with the doors, when the switch is on the "door" setting. There is no other way to go about it without re-wiring.
