When installing the front main seal, is it bad if it is installed too deep into the crank? Just installed one and didn't want to put anything back together if it is going to leak real bad? Please some feedback!

The safe thing to do is to just install another one. I prefer to have them set properly, but I doubt being in a small amount would hurt.

Should it be flush against the outer surface of the pump? I installed to where it's basically in as far as it can go. Also, should I add vasoline to it?

Look at this link. Part of the way down is a pic of the crank seal. That is the way it should be installed. It also shows a good way to install them.

It will bottom out, there are small tabs in the back of oil void, which stop it. The thing to watch out for is the inner lip of the seal turning out when installing (common problem), if this happens it with leak, remove and install new seal.
