Front main seal replacement.... wtf is this?

So I was replacing my front main seal a few minutes ago and when I took the old seal out this little half moon metal piece came out with it. I couldn't see it in there before I took the seal out so I have no idea where it's supposed to go.Has anyone seen this before?Here is the piece that came out:

Here is what it looks like empty. I noticed there is a small valley with two holes which looks like a seating for the piece..

Would it go in like this? It is able to move side to side freely between the valley walls.

Halp!

*edit...I just took a closer look and it seats in the groove on the end of the crankshaft to guide the pulley on. Should caught it before I posted... sorry.

Was it a pain? I have to do mine.

Seems like you just loosen the bolt, take the belts off, remove the pulley...and the seal is right there?
