Never broken one of these before and then Friday night the driver's side front separated while I was turning a corner.

How hard are they to replace, and are there any bad *** upgrades to do to them while it's apart? (Obviosly my front suspension is pretty basic. Just struts and springs up there)

there aren't really any upgrades short of all new control arms from SPL. or you could just get new arms with whiteline bushings pressed in from PDM.

Just so you know, the PDM arms are not OEM. The ball joints are not the same spec as stock. So if you were to break another ball joint, you cannot replace it, you'd have to purchase another arm.

Just get a new ball joint, they are easy to replace.

The Nissan dealer will often(likely) offer the ball joint and control arm as one assembly. Still though, it's not that expensive..

surprising

they are not too hard too change if you have the right tools. strap-on , ratco and cornhole tools all sell a kit that makes quick work of this procedure. if thats not availablenot then an air hammer will get it somewhat fast out or a b.f.h. will surely do the job. that same hammer and a drift will get it in.

i used this place http://www.suspension.com/nissancars.htm to get my joints from. compared to the stock units i removed, the McQuay-Norris ones looked beefier, felt beefier and had a grease port. also the "bolt" part of the joint was about a mm or so bigger than than the stock one. but still fits in the knuckle spindle.
