Being an Ohio resident has its perks......about one day a year. One annoying requirement in Ohio is the need for a front license plate.

What are some options for mounting front license plates cleanly?

There is a factory mounting plastic thing. There was actually an extra one in my car when I bought it, you can have it if you want. I'll post a pic up later when I get home.

This was discussed HERE. My suggestions was the Skene Design unit. SwissCheeseHead got and installed it.

IMO, either leave it off or put it in the center. Everything else just looks goofy as hell. Only time I see people running them on the side like that are the boys with Civics, Evo's, WRX's, etc. Sorry to Swiss, but I don't think that looks good. At all.

That's why it's on my car and not yours :)

It's state law to have our plate in the front, so I don't have much of an option. I also didn't want it taking away from the aero bumper, which I feel it would have were it in the center. I definitely it looks better than the Stillen tow hook mount, which makes it look like the car has a buck tooth.

The nice thing about the Skene mount is that I can move it where ever I want, without visible holes in the front bumper, so if I wanted to make Ilya happy, then I could move it to the center without any visible damage. Too bad he's going to have to live with my design choice. :poke:

If my state required a front plate, I'd get this!

No one said you had to make me happy lol. I'm just saying that, personally, I think it looks terrible. Just like I think that the guys with 'camber' look stupid as hell with their wheels leaning at ungodly angles, or the guys who are so low that half their wheel is hidden in the wheel well, etc...it's all goofy and terrible to me. But, as all mods go, as long as the owner is happy then that's all that matters. No harm, no foul in disagreeing.

Carry on, good sir.

I agree. I don't like it off-center. Ilya, is yours the factory license plate holder? That looks like what I'd prefer.

Sure, please let me get a peak and if I like it, let me know how much shipping costs.

Yep, mine is your standard plate that the dealer installed. Although, the carwash tore it off and I had to have them go back through the wash and find my plate lol. I re-secured it better than the dealer with some new bolts, etc. so it's good now.

Than I'd love to get a factory license plate holder. Does it require drilling holes in the front fascia?

Yep, that's the only downside. But I don't plan to ever remove it so it's no big deal to me. If I had a sport bumper, I'd probably just put the plate in the windshield and run no bracket...risking police intervention.

That's A good point.... It's just going to stay on until I sell the car, probably in Ohio, and then it'll still need to stay on anyway.

You can check out Altec Products show n' go plates. It's a popular with the local Nissan and Infiniti guys in MN since we are required to have a front plate.

I currently have the manual non-powered model and it's held up well through its first winter.

That system requires a side mounted plate which looks hinky in my opinion. The plate looks best when centered on the bumper.
Also, in states that require front plates, they must be visible at all times, even when the car is parked. Having a hide-away plate looks cool, but the only place you can hide it is in your garage so why go through the trouble and expense? I suppose you could hide it at the car wash, but my car will never see a car wash as they use strong detergents and additives that dull the shine of my clay bar, polished, carnuba and detail rubbed finish.

I have no idea what you're talking but take it from someone who actually has it. Bolts to the top part of the bottom grill. It's a nice option to have when your car is on display at a car show plus it's handy to put the plate away when you hand wash your car too

I went with the factory plate holder from mikedamageinc.

Good to see there's options though.

CRV,
No offense meant.
I was not saying your folding plate was bad. I'm simply stating my opinion that the front plate looks best when centered under the grille, not off to the left or right. It's all a matter of preference.
You're right about car shows, too. The car is best displayed with no license plate on the front at all, and your hidden plate would be perfect for shows.

Larz, what he's saying is that on OUR car it does not get mounted (the automatic plate system thing) off to the left or right since our bumper isn't pointed. The corvette has a pointed bumper, which is why it was installed to the left or right.

This is the same concept of why I mount my GoPro for vlogging while riding my motorcycle on the right side of my 'chin' part of the helmet versus right in the center...because my helmet comes to a point in the front (more aerodynamic)... >

That pointed nose brings up a good point on the Corvette and why its mounted off to the side.

Hey Larz no offense taken. Below is a photo of what I was trying to describe. I initially purchased the Stillen relocating kit which utlizes the front tow hook that goes through our front bumper off to the side. I could imagine that being a pain to remove and remount every time it was time to wash the car and attending a car show.

Great thing about Altec Products kit is that its mounted in the center very similar to the OEM position. All you need to do is pull the top part of the license down and it hinges until its parallel to the ground and it slides on a track that's mounted above that
