I just replaced front pads/rotors and repacked the bearings in the front hubs on my 2000 Xterra. Ran into a problem though when re-installing the front right... I was checking to be sure the snapring was set in place (it really didn't look like it) and was pulling fairly lightly (i thought) on the fixed cam assembly to ensure it was locked in place. While pulling on it it came apart and the spring holding the white plastic spacer thing came off the assembly. It is near impossible to get the damn spring back on so I guess i need a new one... I read a post somewhere saying Nissan only sells the hub assembly as one piece and i cannot just buy the fixed cam assembly - does anyone have experience with this and know if that's true? I am also assuming this piece is only used when the front hub is engaged (i.e. when using 4 wheel drive) - am I correct in my assumption? Seems to be driving fine now but makes a clicking when 4 wheel is engaged. Thanks

you mean the auto locking hub assembly itself came apart?

I've got some old spares if you need one.

Yeah, well not the entire assembly itself but just that one part (but that's maybe what you're referring to). It may just operate the auto lock because I don't see that part listed in the FSM for manual locking hubs. In the FSM they call it the "fixed cam assembly" and it is supposed to come off/go on as one unit but by pulling on it it seperated and that spring piece fell off/broke. I was attempting to post a pic of it from the FSM but can't attach the file and the resolution from the PDF is not great.. I'd be happy to email it to you if you like (unless you have the FSM and know what piece I'm talking about).

But yeah, if you happen to have that piece I would surely be interested in getting from you, how much do you want for it?

Yes, I get emails about once a month from different people as a result of this thread. Note that my post was 7 years ago. I don't have this stuff anymore so if you're reading this thread don't email me!

Sorry!! Was just asking you could have been a bit more polite and responded to the email, rather than this bold and impolite response. Thank you.

:slap: You should have contacted a Forum MOD or ADMIN to have your info removed if it was causing you problems. I've removed your info, so it should no longer be an issue.

It took me seeing this thread to know why I was getting all the emails. Amazing how many emails I've gotten over the years asking for these parts. No big deal....just kinda funny.

Back in the day I used to mod this forum.....

Oh come on, I wasn't that rude. Only asked if you'd dredged up an old internet thread to get my contact info. Have a little thicker skin man.

As for the parts, these should be getting reasonably plentiful in salvage yards now. All auto hubs for Frontiers and Xterras were the same from 98-04. Or go to a Nissan 4x4 specialty site like Nissan4wheelers.com and post a want ad. Lots of guys torch out the IFS on these trucks and do solid axle swaps and have these parts laying around.

Actually, I found you rather rude, both on here and in the personal email you sent. It's not about "having thick skin". It's about common courtesy & respect!

Thank you,
Trinette

Sir, I am not digging up anything, except information on how to fix my vehicle. An honest mistake was made as to sending you query after so many years. I didn't take the time to look at the date of the thread. I was rather excited to find something/someone who had them.
So, if you don't mind, this is done and have a good day.

Thank you,
Trinette

Would you still happen to have the fixed cam assemblies available for 2001 Nissan Xterra?
