my steering wheel has the shakes. it has since i bought the car in august. i took it for its first dyno session this past week, and since then, it shakes even worse, and there is some groaning during slow turns now. i thought the process of strapping it way down probably hurt bushings or bearings. i'm in the process of replacing all the bearings with my Energy Suspension Master Kit, but haven't done the tension rod bushings yet. i've looked at them and they're just sad. could they be the reason that the steering wheel shakes only between 55-60mph? it shakes a little above that, but not much. up a hill the speed and down the hill the speed range changes a little, but only by a few MPH.

55-60 shakes seem to be most common, and here are the possibilities.Tires: Underinflated, bald spots, uneven wear (left more worn than right), improper or no balancing.Suspension: rods, springs could be causing rubbing, Other: power steering, although that would be likely noticeable at any speed.

i'm pretty sure it's not the tires. i got them not long ago and they were balanced [by a mexican emmigrant, no offense] at that time. i know tire shops don't always do a good job of balancing; they kind of do it way too fast to try to be accurate every time. the wheel bearings and ball joints feel very firm. i can't detect even a hair's breadth of play in any of them, although at this age i'm wondering if it would be a good idea to go ahead and replace them anyways. i've also read the service bulletin about the steering rack friction spring, which can cause similar symptoms, but i wanted to be sure it wasn't something else before i adjust that as it could have adverse affects on other things if i adjust it to compensate for a flaw in some other part of the steering/suspension system.
