My car has been popping only when turning right. Not like a CV joint just a quick pop. It never does it on the left. The Stealer has replaced the right strut and bushing, sway bar, and rack and pinion. I have attached a photo of the connection of the sway bar to the lower control arm bolt on the right side if inside of the vehicle, or if facing the vehicle the left side. It appears to me that a bushing may be missing. Does anyone else have a picture of this area for comparison? This is really pissing me off.

Thanks!

When I am going really slow or parking or when I just start the car and start to turn the wheel and driving off I hear alot of poping noises from the wheels and breaks, but it all goes away when I start driving.

This is just turning right, like pulling out from a road a quick pop in the steering wheel. Otherwise normal. I can make it happen by rocking the steering from side to side around 10mph or less, you will feel a thud in the steering when rocking to the right. Any pics of the area in question?

Mine has always done this... except when I tried to demonstrate it ot the dealer. It only does it while turning and going over bumps.

It's starting to annoy me. The car has plenty of cheapness to go around without having the steering rack pop whenever the suspension strokes while turning.

I suspect that it's a bushing, bad ball joint or rod end.

seems like lots of versa have this problem. Mine does it too and from what i think, its the tension in spring than makes that popping sound while turning slow. Because car design (platform) is a bit higher and wider than other in its class,it would make sense that force requried to turn the wheels is bigger making spring to tense more and thats why it "pops"a bit. It was a concern of mine before...i ignored it now tho'.

Well I am going to keep pushing the issue until mine gets resolved. I cannot tolerate a new vehicle with any noises whatsoever. This should not be happening. We should all complain until we get a resolution or recall. Does anyone have a pic of the area above for comparison?

Mine has 3200 miles on it and it's an '08, I have not had anything like that at all and if I did I certainly would not ignore it! My hands would be around the Dealers throat!! I'll see if I can take a photo of mine for comparison this weekend. It looks and sounds like you lost a bushing to me.

After having all of the above mention parts replaced by the stealer it still does it. Though it is not as bad after the rack was replaced. But it does look as if a bushing is missing. I would appreciate those pics a bunch to see if yours looks like mine.

Thanks!

Yup, I'm hearing about this more and more. I wrestled with this problem about six months ago or so. It sounds exactly as you're describing: a slight pop or thump from the steering when turning right. It's almost like I'm going over seams in the road -- except it's far too predictable for that to be the case, since it usually happens when the wheel is turned just past halfway.

I took it in and my dealer held the car for three days figuring out the problem and ordering a part. They replaced the "electronic steering column". Truly, it made a difference for the first few months, then the sound came back. It seems like it's getting louder now, and it's not intermittent. I need to take it back to the dealer (stealer - ha ha, love it) before the warranty is up (I've got 29K miles) but haven't had time lately. I'm hoping it's just an annoyance issue and not a safety concern!

LOL, I posted about this a while back and apparently not to many people had this problem at the time or didn't speak up about it. It sucks for you guys but atleast I don't feel I'm the only one. I took mine to the dealer but I couldn't reproduce it so I'm just living with it. I only have 7k on mine so I have some time on my warranty. I've just been waiting to see if something else breaks and "kill 2 birds with one stone".

Well after the rack was replaced it has calmed down quite a bit, but it is still noticeable. I have corporate affairs involved and am going back to the stealer today to investigate the motor mounts. This is because of a "tinking noise" which is my exhaust hitting the heat shield when rocking back and forth feeling the thumping. I think the thump and the tink go together. motor mounts? I have also filed a report with NHTSA. Everyone with this problem should do the same. Maybe we can get a recall.

Well just got back from the stealer and we could not duplicate the "thump" in the front. They are going to fix the "tink" which is the exhaust hitting the heat shield when it rocks back and forth. The part on the front of the car in the pic is normal all of them look the same. We crawled under several of them and they all look the same. They said they could not replace the motor mounts unless they were busted.
