I first noticed the problem about 6 months ago when I had to come down hard on the brakes. I noticed a light thump when I appied the brakes so I put it up on jacks and pulled the wheels off and and checked all of the front end components I ended up removing the calipers and pins inspected and regreased the pins and systematicly lubed every place I could think of it was all quiet untill about 2 weeks ago when it came back. The only thing I can think of now is that my aftermarket adjustable tension rods might be the culprit. Have any of you experinced this problem and solved it?

Just to throw it in, but when you mentioned brakes I thought of the rotor. Check for like.. chirping? of the brake pads. If there is a line, then a inch or several centimeters later another solid line on the rotor then you may get them resurfaced. Just a thought

I had a similar problem, it turned out my tension rod bushings were shot, replaced them, and no thump. Did you lube the tension rods when you jacked the car up, and if you did, try lubing just the rod bushing and see if it goes away, if it does then replace the bushings.

Thats what I was thinking my tension rods are adjustable after market ones and it has a ball and socket in the end that connects to the frame I'm thinking of smearing the ends with grease to see if that helps. Thanks for your input

i have the same problem but i have 300zx brakes... i've always thought it was brake pad slap(movement of pads usually cuz they are aftermarket and not OE.)

I've had bad tension rod bushings and that shiznat is harsh feels like the whole front end shifts.

My front end popped pretty bad when I got on the brakes after doing my 5 lug conversion. check the tension rod bolts that go thru the lca. Mine were not tight enough, allowing them to slip and "pop" the arm. Good luck.

And sorry about this, but boba, that chic is killing me man, where did you get that pic.

Most likely your bushings....not the struts. Struts will pop when you are turning if the bearing and upper perch is bad...

How did you make out - did you find the problem? My car is starting to do that a little.

hey i am having the same problems also. i have replaced my front lower control arms and got new adjustable tension rods but the noise seems to still be there. i was wondering if greasing up the tension rods worked for you?
