me and my buddy put some H&R's on my 2k2 recently. i put the spring sleeves from the oem springs on the new ones, they are snug on the perch, all boots, bushings and gaskets were retured to their proper location and all bolts were torqued properly but i still get a sort of cranking sound when i turn my steering wheel. it's kind of a "tink-tink-tink" sound and it's not very noticable, but i can't stand not having my car perfect. now, i do have a pinhole in my cv boot from trying to strongarm the strut back into position and nissan is going to repair it (under warranty too). but i can't see that being the source of the sound. anyone have any insight to lend?

I know on my 2k2 with Eibachs I get a rubbing noise when turning sharply while driving slow or turning into a driveway. The springs are so close together they actually rub. The fix is to wrap the whole spring to quiet them down....Too lazy to do that at the moment...

it's mostly when the car isn't moving or is moving very slowly, right?

Some get spiral wrap for them. Probably what I will get eventually. You can get it at Home Depot.

it could also be something with your strut bearing or something along those lines. it will cause your springs to turn on your struts and when you straighten the wheel the springs are snapping back into place making that ticking sound. make sure you have the strut bearing in the right place.

i was thinking so too. on a 2k2 it's that light grey( i think it's black on 2k1 and earlier) plastic ring that sits inside the top of the strut mount right? can i regrease these bearings or do i have to get a new pair, also will i have to get another tire alignment done after i remove my strut assembly again to fix the problem?

actually they are all grey. You have two options:

1.) Re-grease the bearings for $3 worth of mobil1 synthetic lube, pay for an alignment, 10,000 miles later do it all again because that's about all it will last.

2.) Buy new strut bearings, have it aligned and your good for another 100,000 miles.

Yes it is in between the top hat and the upper-strut mount.

I'd fix it ASAP. The lip-ring sits up. So to answer your question, yes, the widest part sits down.

I said fix it asap because ALL of the sprung weight of your vehicle rests on those little plastic bearings to allow the car to turn properly.

You'll be very happy with the illuminas. I love mine. I can go from cadillac to track in no-time.
