Howling/humming noise noticable at highway speed. Not a griding noise. Seems to be left side - more pronounced when turning left. No excessive tire wear and the tires have not been changed. Thanks any ideas.Chuck

Sounds like a front wheel bearing. They are a pretty common issue on Muranos.

I have a 93 Murano AWD and have the same roaring sound from the driver side front end. I too thought it could be a bearing or break pad.

Hey there Guys, Welcome To Nico!

It really sounds like you are experiencing a failing front wheel bearing. This is not something that should be put off for too long as damage to more suspension components.

chuck, get rid of the car fast, ours started howling at 55,000 miles, took it to nissan dealer, told us it was "tire noise" was having weird transmission trouble to but they said it was transmission valve body, it wasn't, it was transfer case (cracked in half) and transmission. Nissan will do nothing even though we had it in for the problem under warranty. Quoted $10,000 to fix! Have read hundreds of posts from others with same experience. Also had premature failure of exhaust manifold, cat conv., struts etc. etc. Worst car I have ever had. I regularly get over 250,000 miles on my vehicles with no major troubles.

Welcome to NICOclub! Thanks for visiting the Murano Forum.

Sorry to hear about your problems.....where have you read about the hundreds of people with the same problem? I have not heard of this, just was curious as to where you found all these people with the same problem you had.

Hey fellas. Sorry for the late response, I just joined this evening, will be posting my own problem in a bit. I bought my '03 brand new, and heard the same thing after driving the car from southwest PA to north central IA to go visit the in-laws. The car had about 24K mi or so on it at the time. Took it to the local dealer out there, took the service tech for a test drive, and he heard it but didn't know what it was. Got it home, and took it back where I bought it. I told them it sounded like a transmission gear whine, so they replaced the transmission. The noise didn't go away. Then they replaced the front diff, and the noise went away. That was the last complaint I had, car now has 111K, and is our "good" car. My car is a 2007 suzuki XL7. It's a lease, and I can't wait to get rid of it. Murano's Rule!!
