just put some new tires (kumho asx) on our G35x and actually got behind the wheel for the first time in a while (it is the girlfriend's daily) and sure enough it's got a pretty nice "hum" from the front end which gets louder when i weight the drivers side and quieter when i weight the passenger side (turning back and forth indycar warm-up style).

is this common with these cars?

what is the most economical route to repair? I've got some mechanical aptitude, but it would be a pain to get my garage organized and I'd have to pull the C43 out into the winter in order to do it myself.

Is it a simple press-in bearing that local shop should be able to install for a couple hundred bucks?

thanks for the time to make a good answer- I just don't have a ton of time to research elsewhere nor the desire to take a look myself (due to all the "roadblocks" in between me and geting it in the garage (see my signature and use your imagination about what my 2.5 car garage might look like with half the motor and the entire front end off the C43).

Not a very common problem

I've heard of some people thinking they had a wheel bearing going out but it was the tires that they put on that were making the sound

This might still be under warranty. Not sure if a wheel bearing is covered under powertrain or not. If it is, your powertrain is 6 yrs and 70k miles.

If its a 6MT, it could be the transmission...

It is very possible. Common for the G35x. Front Wheel bearing part number is 40210-AL800. Sells at the dealer for $200 to $300. Seen it happen to many between 40 and 60k. RWD models at about 70k.

I will have her give the dealer a call from work tomorrow- to see if it would be covered.

I'm 99% certain it's a wheel bearing

Let us know about the bearing. Poysinous would know more about it than most of us, since he's a tech.
