So i know this is a topic that's been hashed out a few times already, and I've read through those threads but still have a few questions. So 2001 Qx4s... our Bose door speakers have amps integrated with the speakers? Does that mean it's pretty simple to just pull those speakers out and use the same wiring to hook up new speakers that also have their own amps? Or will I need a bigger, independent amp to power better speakers? I'm very happy with the kicker L7 in the trunk... I'd like to upgrade the door speakers to match. Thanks,-Nick

I'm not totally sure about that. I took them out and put new ones in (all four doors). I didn't see any amps with the speakers. But why would we have amps with the speakers if we have that amp behind the panel in the cargo area?

good question... i think maybe the amp in the back only provides power for the tweeters and rear door speakers? When I was taking stuff apart back there with the sub I noticed that there weren't enough sets of wires coming out of the factory amp to provide power to all of the speakers in the car, so unless those wires split further on, there's gotta be more than one amp. I'm sure someone will clear this up....

The amp in the cargo area power the two rear doors and the both front doors have an amp in them. The door amps power the front door speaker and the tweeter that correspond to the amp side.

To answer your question, if you want to switch out your door speakers your going to want to take the stock amp and the speakers out if you want to upgrade. The amps in the doors and cargo area are made for 2 ohm speakers I believe (im not 100% sure) but if you want real sound replace it all. The amps are pretty much useless without those bose speakers

As Roger said the speakers are 2-ohms. You will have to remove the amps for the front speakers as well as the rear amp for the rear speakers.

Not sure if the Bose headunit will be able to power your new speakers tho as from my understanding the Bose headunit didn't really power the speakers as the amps were doing that job.

When you replace you door speakers you will have to bypass the rear amp to get the signal to your rear speakers.
