Hey guys!

My wife just bought a 06 M35. The lady that that we bought it from said the back up camera would need to be replaced and the dealership had quoted her around $700.

This model has the DVD player and when I try to play it on the front display it is distorted to same way that backup camera is.

I am assuming that the video feed from the camera and DVD player to the Front Display are the same cable because they both share the same problem.

Could this be a simple fix? How easy is it to take out the DVD player?

Thanks for your help!

Looking at the schematics the camera goes into the camera control unit which feed into the display. The DVD player feeds into the video distribution switch first then into the display. I noticed you have nav do you have a rear monitor? Is the image also screwed up on that monitor? Was you car in a flood? I ask because this almost seems like an electrical contact issue. Possibly at the smj. I would begin by first determining exactly what works and what doesn't. Test each thing in your car and list what does and doesn't here.

Try the following

Turn off the radio
Push and hold the settings button
Rotate the volume knob clockwise while holding the settings button down
This gets you into diagnostics mode of your electronics.
Go into diagnostics and test each subsection

I believe some errors in the diagnostics are normal. Unfortunately, I can't tell you which ones. I don't think the normal ones will really have significant meaning to most people (myself included), though, so if there are any that matter/could help, hopefully they make sense. That having been said, while testing everything, don't forget the RCA ports behind the console. I imagine you'll have the same problem with them, but it might be interesting/helpful in diagnosis if you didn't. Dealers are expensive, but I'm thinking $700 might still be high for a camear, and maybe the lady described the isuse wrong but the quote for the repair would be right in fixing it. Unfortunately, you'd have to pay a diagnostic fee to go to the dealer. Presumably it would count toward repair, though, making that point moot if the quote comes back at $700 and you were willing to pay that.
