Well Iam in the process of rebuilding my KA24E and dammit, when it came to putting that timing cover on, it would not go on for ****!!!! I bent my head gasket, the oil pan gasket kept moving. When I finally almost got it up there, it was the oil pan gaskets fault!!! It seemed alittle too thick and was preventing the cover to go up there. I worked and worked with it, so I finally got p.o.ed at it and decided to cut it, so thats what I did, I cut the SOB and then put some good gasket maker all over that area, I made that small section a huge silicon gasket(hoping it will seal and prevent a oil leak):thinker. I am going to go back over it again with more sealer when the other sealer completely cures, to make sure it will provide a good seal.

I hope it will stayed sealed, anyone who reads this, what do you think? Front cover was the biggest pain in the *** through the whole process.

Wow, what a job.... I did my timing chain a couple of months ago, and let me tell you, getting the cover off and sealed back on was the most pain in the *** job I've ever done on my car. I dunno why, though, but getting it back on was easier than taking it off though... and I still had it in the car!

As for the cover staying sealed, I don't see why the sealant wouldn't work, but only time will tell. Hope it turns out ok.

You know there wasn't a oil pan gasket installed from the factory! You didn't try and put the timing cover on with the oil pan tight did you? You should leave the pan loose untill you bolt the timing cover on. If you cut the gasket and left the part off that seals the pan to the timing cover and left the gasket part for the pan to block there then your going to have a bad oil leak.

Ouch, even if I seal it up real good Open? I cut the gasket around where it sits on the cover and pan and left it on where it sits block 2 pan. I gooped alot of gasket sealer on it. Should I just pull the motor up and take the oil pan gasket off? and Just seal it really good with a gasket sealer? Would that prevent a oil leak?

The silicone will not likely hold inside a wide gap that you have where you remove the section of gasket. However if you remove the remaining gasket and have 2 good mating surfaces then the silicone alone will seal your pan. Goodluck
