Is it possible to get the damn front cover back onto the engine with the engine in the car without having to take off the lower oil pan? We've been working and working and it's just not wanting to slide on.

In my mind...my crazy little mind it would seem to work but if you cant get it in the near future just take off the oil pan and get it done. Can some one give a def. answer though?

the best way to do this is to take out the lower oil pan and the oil sifter, then unbolt your whole upper oilpan..now the upper oilpan is a ***** to get off but you will be able to wedge some flat head screw drivers in there and give you just enough room to pull the front cover off and be able to putit back on. and when you install it..just add some gasket maker to the upper oilpan and pull out your screw drivers and bolt it back up. i had to do this like 3 times so im used to it. you also have to unbolt it from the head aswell..this means you have to removie the exhaust cam sprocket to be able to get a 10mm socket down there.

Ok im sorry. I just notice that what i told you is completely backwards..sorry just got back from my cousins 21st bday so im alittle intoxicated. but the same goes.. unbolt the upper oilpan and wedge some screw drivers in there so the oil pump fitting that goes to the oil sifter passes the upper oilpan so you can put it in there and bolt it up.sorryu!

Seems like it would be easier to just pull the motor. Half the bolts for the upperoil pan are under the crossmember

I did all this with the car sitting on jackstands. the bolts are easy to get to..well they were for me anyway aslong as you had the right tools all you need is open end wrenches, a few sockets and extenders maybe even a swivlehead. But its all up to you.

The total time it took me to remove the front cover and install it back on with a new beed of gasket maker was like 2 hours.
