hello, yes i am a new member... long story short just bought my 89 240 back that I sold to a friend about 5 years ago, it still has the coil overs that I put on it right before I sold it but the front are and never were able to lower because the coil over nut(?) isnt allowed to screw down because there is this weird metal thing around the shock that kind of extends over the tire... can I just cut this off? I tried searching but nobody else seems to have this problem... any advice would be appreciated http://s690.photobucket.com/al...est=1

yea probably should... the shocks are kyb im pretty sure they are these: idont know what its called but the springs are sitting on the nut that screws up and down to raise or lower the spring, i just cant get it down because of that piece thats sticking out.. i guess my best bet is to just get proper coil overs and struts.. but the rear is fine - i can raise and lower it no problem...

They look like the blown struts I just took off of my ride. It looked like the previous owner took one spring, cut it into two, and used it for both struts...Needless to say the first turn I took fell like I was going to run right off the road. Get some coilovers. They're worth it.

Maybe you should just take the strut off the car to adjust the springs, if this is the setup you are going for. Maybe you can raise the car and you should be able to move the spring around.

That piece of metal holds the bottom of the spring. The stock front spring is suppose to fit all that space. Looks like someone stuck a rear spring on a front strut. That s*** looks dangerous bud, don't drive around like that.

from what ive been reading nobody seems to like lowering springs, but obviously they would be better than what i got right now... would they really be that bad, especially for daily driving? there are some good deals on tein and megan racing springs on ebay, thinking about picking some of those up...
