i am planning on swapping a rb25det into my 92 240sx hatchback, but i have talked to some people and some have suggested a whole front clip which would be about 4000.00 shipped or should i buy the motor set with transmission and motor and hopefully an uncut wiring harness ecu etc...

People with experience lend me your wisdom help me down the right path....

Clip if you need a frame of reference for the swap and are planning on using the R33 crossmember/mounts.Motorset if you know what you're doing. Just be sure that all the necessities are included.

It might be wise to go front clip, that way you have all the parts and unless you can get the subframe and mounts for really cheap

I had this topic on a local forum and it just makes sense to go clip, yeah you can get a cheap motorset off ebay or something and save some cash but think down the road.... might save more with clip, then you can sell extra parts when done

good shops will even process these for you and huck all the steel so you just get all the parts and no extra metals

venus-auto still sells clips. i've done both, it cut my time in 1/2 for just getting the motorset. i don't have to pull the motor twice, and waste time disposing the shell. on top of that you save on shipping cost, knowing now they increased the freight cost due to fuel cost. just ask the vender to include the crossmember (if they have it). most people uses custom mounts, so it's a coil toss.

+1 on motorset, just make sure you get everything you need from them, most the time if you contact them and get a email staiting what you are going to get before they send it. that way if it arrives without a couple parts you have it in writing and they wont just dust you off because they have their money. its always good to make a checklist to go over to ensure you get everything. even if your not going to use parts like the crossmember or the a/c compressor those things are a rare commodity and can be sold to help fund your project

Clips are great if you can sell the body pieces to some skyline-lovin-newbs. They also ensure the motor wasnt damaged physically by shipping it, which was the case on both my and another members rbneo we purchased from the same company the same week. They were a horrible company though.

Cliff Notes: Buy from a reputable company with either decision

not your fault you didn't know about them. they are pretty much the very first reliable vendors with continuous supply to import these motors because they own their salvage yards oversea and can get them here cheaper than others. all my motors are bought from them, will do again

If your a first time swapper and/or not going all the way through the motor, I would vote clip. Quicker to get running to take advantage of any startup warranty the supplier may have. Takes some confusion out of the installation process. Also it will give you an ample supply of oem fastners to use when you lose yours. In some cases like mine you may even get some other goodies like a nice steering wheel and a Blitz turbo timer.

Are you swapping in yourself, or having someone else do it?
