Things were going downhill well before 9/11 - additionally, our economic practices, involving breeding into our culture the fact that cheaper is better rather than quality has a lot to do with it. It's made a lot of our businesses go to other countries merely to sustain our lust for cheap prices. However, it's a vicious cycle that will eventually end with our collapse as we move entirely to a service economy and our balance of trade goes even further into the deficit with our dependence upon foreign oil. I really don't want to get into it, because I could argue till I"m blue in the face, I can also support basically everything I "believe" with entirely factual and supportable information. Enjoy your day!

Ack! Look what this has started.

I never intended this to be a political debate about buying from an Amercian company vs buying from a foreign one. Fact is at the time I bought my clip no one had any in and the VERY few that did wanted ~$2K more than FO.

Had I known about all this hub bub in actually getting the clip I probably would have waited and gone with someone else. But that's the past. My money has been spent and the clip is 30 minutes away from my house.

Now the question is how do I get it? If you don't want to help me that's fine, I can't force you. But I'd really appriciate it if you could.

Throw some money Dauntt's way, see if he could help you out. Say.... $500+ and the chance to smack you in the back of the head for not buying from a good source.

:) :D :pface

Sounds like a good idea S15, but someone is going to wonder where that engine went...so then he'd be driving around with an illegally imported stolen engine, that cant be good! Too bad it could'nt work like that though...it was my first thought as well, just steal it out of the warehouse.

We're all just assuming he knows, maybe he doesn't. Whatever his reasons, they are his, no one can make him give up the infromation.

Of course I would like his help, but giving it up or not is his perogative.

I just called Customs this morning and they said they'd look at the clip ... hopefully good news.

yeah, its illegal if you drive around with it...but at least it would'nt be stolen property! I'd save stealing it back as a last ditch option, and one I probably would'nt even try then...I have a feeling those warehouses have pretty decent security.

are we talking about the chance to dress all in black, run around with ropes and stun guns and get one over on the government?

Cool! I'm in.

Once again to each man his own, eh? Since you seem wealthy... continue to over-pay here in America, and I'll save myself thousands of dollars...... to each his own. By the way how old are you 19??? Tell K to come out of the closet...

I know this was supposed to be funny, and I dunno what the ports are like around where you are.. but the thought of trying to 'break into' the port of Long Beach to jack anything is bordering on straight up suicide. You have more to worry about from the unionized truckers and dock-workers, than from the few sparse law-enforcement officials around there.

Hell, as long as we're talking about jacking things... you'd be better off trying to get into the thousands of cars that are sitting on the dock at any point in time.

lol there is always a way hehe not that i would sneak in to steal it i would bet that it would be extremely hard if not impossible i mean there is only one way to get out for one and then you have the guards and of couse the employess which i bet would be the toughest but hey...........................lol

is if I was importing 500tons of Coke, they catch it and destroy it, but I already paid for it. Is that stealing? The SR is illegal just like a pound of coke is illegal.

That's why everybody who knows about motor's is telling everyone else not to go out of the country to buy somthing. I'm sorry you got burnt, but don't say we didn't warn you. I really have little sympathy for people who have this happen to them. I'm not going to send 3,000 overseas on an 'if' just to save a few hundred bucks over a sure thing in the US. There are reasons these company's don't have shops over here, they don't want to deal with all the problems, that's what they have customers for.....

How you use the SR might be illegal. Importing them OBVIOUSLY is not. How else would all these other engines be in the country?

The SR in and of itself isn't illegal. What you do with it ... that's another story. So how is it that all these other people manage to bring literally thousands upon thousands of engines/clips seemingly without incident? That's what I'm trying to find out.

Again, it was never my intention to turn this into any kind of debate. Its a public forum, I know better than to expect that :)

you ordered this clip from flashoptions? strange ive never herd of anyone else having problems with them. what it sounds like to me is the policies at this particular port.

or flashoptions might have forgotten a form (after all they are only human).

I'm going to go to Customs today after lunch to give them the paperwork. I just talked to someone different. He said that I just have to show them the paperwork and they send the forms to the EPA.

I'll post after I return. If everything goes well I'll have the front clip tomorrow. :)

So it seems in the end all this was due to either miscommunications between myself and the Customs officer or the guy not knowing what to do.

Got back from Customs a little while ago. It was uneventful, he looked at my paperwork, filled out an EPA form, took money for duties and stamped the papers.

Duties cost me a whopping $14.03

The delay was finding a Customs officer who knew what needed to be done. The first guy I talked to said _I_ needed to fill out form 3520, it turns out that _THEY_ fill it out.

All that needed to be done was take the paperwork I've had since day 1 down there and pay the duties. If anyone wants to know he put Code W on the form.

Now off to rent a U-Haul ^_^
