I have seen multiple times on the parts diagram for the front bumper that there is an air deflector/dam that bolts to the bottom of the bumper, below the splash guard I assume. I never had this piece ever since I got the car, and with a HEFTY price tag, not sure that I will be buying one either. Question is - what exactly does it do and is it necessary? It sure isn't a front lip and it costs more than the BUMPER itself. Saw one on ebay and it is a thin little piece of plastic....

It is an air deflector which helps to "push" air away and keep it from going under the car. This improves mileage and stability at speed. Probably not much but it is functional, not just cosmetic.

I figured it served a "purpose"...not a 350 dollar purpose though. Thanks for the clarification on its use

If I can find a salvaged one or on ebay then I may buy it...until then, not going to worry about it. It costs more than if you buy the bumper cover from infiniti.

Not sure if this is the part you're after. I found this:

Your original post and your signature does not specify a year. No idea you had an '08 model. It's very odd that this same part for an '07 (older body style) is under $100 and yours is 3x that. Best of luck with your search.

Does anyone have a picture of this part installed on the car? I don't remember my car having this part. It's hard to tell from a diagram.

Actually, you did. You're welcome for the efforts I made. Won't bother to help any further - best of luck.

Show me where I said I wanted to know where to source one? I specifically said these pieces cost more than the bumper itself which would mean I already know where to buy it if I really wanted. The whole point of this thread was asking what irs purpose was...not that I needed one. Thanks for your help anyway
