The fronts are by far the worse!!! This is how they come out. Obviously, they've not had any attention in the 44 years they've been on this rig!
It was bad enough just getting the bulbs out of the sockets. I wiggled them back and forth until the glue holding the glass to the base broke loose. Then I twisted the glass part until the wires broke. I was then left with just the base. It still has a small amount of glass in the bottom of the base but the bulb is out of the way. I took a small screwdriver and pried/twisted it to separate the base from the socket. Then I could grab it with pliers and remove it. Now that I've figured out how to replace the socket, I won't bother doing it this way next time

I fired up the bigger sandblaster. There's no way the glass beads were going to do the heavy work. I then put some Ospho (metal prep) on them to convert the rust that was left. I think they were galvanized. Whatever it was, the acid in the Ospho turned it white.
Getting the base out was fun. I sandblasted the front and back enough to get the rust out of the way. Then a tap with a small screwdriver from the backside popped it loose. Again....I'd just replace the whole socket next time.

I'll add the part number info for the socket a bit later.....but you can see it matches up pretty nicely.

I cut the socket off with a cutoff wheel and sanded it down to the last ring.

The new one snapped right in like it was made for it!

So after I tigged a couple of spot welds on to make sure that I was going to have a good ground contact between the two, I bent the prongs over on the inside. The socket does not need to separate since the lense comes off the front to replacet the bulb.

The spot welds and the glass bead finish. I wanted some "tooth" on all of it in case I decide to powdercoat them.
