I've read countless posts of people having the same issue I am. This musty smell coming from the A/C when I first turn it on. I have changed my cabin filter, Ran it on Fresh Air before I shut it off, Shot Lysol into the intake vents, Febreeze and even had the dealer look at it.

My next try is what has been successful for a lot of people which is BG Frigi-Clean foam. I guess you have to drill a hole in the evaporator and foam it in the clean the system and disinfect all of the stinkyness away. Can you guys point please me in the right direction of where the evaporator is and where the drain hose is for our M's. Or show me a scan from the manual where I can do this. I assuming I can get to it from the glove box I just want to make sure I’m drilling in the right spot. Not so happy about having to drill but I'm ready to fix this smell.

Thanks in advance.

I’ve been a long time Infiniti user but never have had any major problem about bad odor from the A/C system for as long as I:-replace the cabin filter on a regular basis-switch to ECON mode on the last couple of miles/minutes of the drive to allow frost/condensation to drain-verify A/C drain line is clog-free-spay BF Frigi-Fresh once a year (cycle the A/C in Max Cold and Full Heat and spray Frigi Fresh)

BTW, Lysol is corrosive and may eventually damage your evaporator (per Dennis or q45tech). If you insist on drilling a hole, make sure you don’t do it at the bottom of the duct. If the plug you use is not tight, water will leak into the passenger side and give you more problems. The evaporator drain line should be just to the rear of the front passenger wheel well.

Below is a YouTube posting about evaporator cleaning (but on a different car) as well as posting from Steve The Tech to guide you in looking for the A/C duct.

Thanks for the reply. I actually did try last night running the system on full heat for like 15mins then on fresh and all day today and it made a huge difference. I dont think I will need to do this after all. Thank God I do not want to DRILL.

Loystock, How long are you running AC and HEAT before you shoot frigi-fresh?

Time varies, depending on the outside air temp, whether the car is in a shade or under the sun and the cooling/heating capability of your system.

Raise the hood, start the car, open the driver side window and turn on the A/C. Verify rear passenger vent is open. Select Fresh Air, Max Cool (lowest temp) and Mode to Center Vent. Once air from center vent is cold to touch, spray Frigi-Fresh on the A/C air intake (below windshield) until you can smell it coming out of the center vent. Then change mode to Foot Warmer, spray Frigi-Fresh, change mode to Windshield Defroster and spray Frigi-Fresh. Do a similar process in Max Heat (highest temp). Repeat process as needed. I spray less Frigi-Fresh while in Max Heat.

When you spray into the intake duct below the windshield you are just spraying to the top of the cabin filter, it may be more effective if either you a. removed the filter. or b. remove the filter and spray from that spot where you remove the filter behind the glove box

I'm gonna have to give this frigi-clean a try. Reminds e of the movie "Me. Myself, and Irene" you know the scene if you've seen it.
