A little known fact about repo is that he kind of has a sick fetish for DSM's. There is one for sale in his town that is all original, untouched and seems to be well-maintained. Should he pick it up? Factory turbo car, doesn't smoke, GS-T (FWD) and manual trans of course. It's a red, '93 Eclipse, priced about what a decent s13 would be.

Your Thoughts???

Wait for a GS-X, and I didn't think you were that short??

Been in only a few DSM's and even with the seat all the way back had to squeeze into the car.

Sorry andy

Anyway.. It certainly would be a change from what you've had in the past.. Personally, i think they're kinda trendy... I see them all around anderson... I dont know if that means theyre popular or just white trash (could be both).....

Not a bad car... but i think you could do better probably quicker for the money than about anything, at least nissan related, unless you got a stellar deal on a SR S13

Trendy? How so? SCC called them "old school". And when was the last time you saw an SR'd s13 sell for 3k or so? One that wasn't a basket case anyway.

The point to this is that the car is already a turbo, I don't have to mess with a swap or a $4k turbo kit and I can just do some basic maintenance and a tune-up and have a car ready to go for next season's auto-x, racing and lapping days. AND I get saucy turbo-goodness.

Am I really far off here?

Point taken... I dont know much about that kinda crap, im in the slow lane with my grandpa car.

Probably best I go back to infiniti general, and then off to the gas station to fill up again (12 mpg).....

I think it sounds about the most cost effective turbo car you could go for

Then again, you could always go http://www.turbominivan.com

I myself am a DSM fan. I have quite a few friends wtih all stages of modded turbo dsm's. They are very nice, but you learn one thing with a dsm. It's either screaming fast on the street, or not moving at all on jack stands. That's just the nature of having a race car though. I myself like the 2nd gen GSX eclipses, but I would drive any gen. If it's a good deal by all means go for it. I'm the type of person who likes all varieties of cars, as long as they are fast of course.

I've also thought about just waiting until spring and picking up a 350Z. I don't know how feasible that is though. The DSM would be a cheap route to go comparitively.

Hey repo..I had a 90 Eclipse 2.0 N/A

I drove a turbo one though and they are quick but let me give you some info that I know of.

Even the manual transmission has its quirks. Such as shifting. Sometimes going from 1 to 2 gear it stick and wont engage. This seems to always want to happen when you are racing someone. It is a pain in the ***. The motor is pretty solid except for little quirks here and there. Timing belt needs to be checked or will blow the motor. Being a transverse motor and all.

Just realize that you will only have a max of 3 people in the car and the backseat passenger will be pissed. Matter of fact the backseat is a joke.

Itd be cheaper to go with the former, but having anew(ish?) car with a warranty is tempting......

I know all about it. I've had three 240's and a '72 Camaro RS. Backseat was a joke in all of 'em.

Wes, the Z would obviously be more expensive as far as purchase price, but the Eclipse could nickel and dime me to death. Transmission here, headgasket there, etc, etc. I could probably get an '03 Z in the low 20's certified from a dealer and be covered under warranty and not have to take the new car depreciation hit.

I don't know what'll happen yet but I do know that I want something in my garage of my own.

Any other saucy suggestions? I drove an EVO a couple weeks ago.

You should go for it. They are very "trendy" around here, but that doesn't mean a person with good taste can't do good things with one.

First order of business, ditch the damn wing. Can you imagine how much better that thing would look without that stupid arc aross the trunk? Then paint it black [insert Rolling Stones music here] and then put NICO stickers in the windows. And get liscence plate frames that say "I wish I was a Nissan."

Are we pretty much limited to any turbo car.....??

The 350 would be cool, more expensive, but maybe not as fun.. If you wreck it or blow it up, your not out as much as you would be a new car......

Is the '93 1st gen? Stay away from the 2nd gens with the 420A motor. Iron block and aluminum head, but they used the wrong headgasket and are prone to oil leaks. The car is really stiff but heavy. But if it has a 4G63 motor that's cool. They have a lot of potential. The transverse engine thing bugs me too.

Well guys, I have decided against it for now. I really would like to stick with Nissan. If I could swing a new Z, that would be great, but if I just got another nice s13 I think I could be just as happy with that. I wish I could buy Enjuku's project car they have for sale right now, but I don't have that much cash on hand with having just bought a house and went to Europe.

Keep an eye out for nice s13's and maybe I'll pick one up after tax time.
