Okay as the tittle says A friend of mine wants a R34 shell with everything but the engine so it can be imported without having to go through customs regulations. He is looking to spend about 10K for the shell then buy the RB separately. So can anyone help him?

Ah the famous "kit car" loophole.

I've heard of a few people getting busted on that one. No "hard" evidence, but it's a pretty shady way to bring a car in. Depending on where you were I'd say it's a risky proposition at best. Customs agents aren't all non car guys / gals!

Won't work.

At least not if anyone decides to really check it out. A "kit car" can't use a production frame, period.

For instance, an "excalibur" isn't a kit car either.

It gonna cost more than that for an R34! Plus if the car is ever stolen or wrecked he'll be out alot of $$$$. A shop in Indy did that. They imported a R33 GTR piece-by-piece and put it together. Had it for awhile and then supposely it was stolen out of their shop. They haven't seen it or any insurance money either! Tell your friend to save up and buy a car already in the US and don't get all greedy and only want an R34. 32 and 33 are just as good!

The main reason why he wants an R34 is because no one in LaFayette (the redneck town where we live that has no emissions regulations) will know what he's driving if it's an 33 or 32 due to 2fast2furious. I've tryed to tell him just get a 33 then put a 34 bumper on it and no one will know the dif. but he said that if he's gonna have a skyline its got to be a 34 and no "rip off". Does anyone know a way that I could convince him to get a 32 or 33?

R34 was in the second movie. Honestly its up to him, but just warn him of what could happen. I'd have a Skyline today if I wasn't so cautious of scammers! Whats his plans for it, if he does get one? Just driving it or racing (autox, drag, or drift?) Because honestly the R34 isn't the car for these events. Too heavy from what I have read. R32 is the best choice. R33's are nice but gaining weight as well. Good luck! Look up Takara Motors (NICO sponsor).

I didn't realize the 34 weighed more thanks. I think he really wants to have the fastest car in lafayette and the body that says "I rule the road beotch" but he's also probably going to drag it no autox in 50 miles of here *Cry*. And he wants something that gets good MPG.

I don't own a Skyline (yet LOL) but I'm pretty sure they aren't the best fuel economic vehicles! Plus he wants something fast and a Skyline would be that but it'll also get him the wrong kind of attention he doesn't want!

You can pick one or the other! Sounds like a decision between an old Corvette with a bored, stroked, and supercharged 427 and a stock Geo Metro to me. LOL

I'm not the one to pee on anyone's dreams, but an R34 in any condition is going to be quite an expensive undertaking. Why not get something that's over 25 years old? I think the R30 fits into that category, but I'd have to look up the dates to be sure.

There was probably a way for you to contribue something without coming across as a punk without a shift key on your keyboard. ...and I'm lost on how a Cobra kit car using an early 90s Mustang frame is applicable here. If all you want to do is be a jackass, then I'm sure you can find some other thread to go play in.

The guy in the thread you linked to was importing the last generation RX-7. I'm no expert on them, but I'm going to go ahead and say that the RX-7 you could buy in Japan was pretty damn similar to what you could buy in the states when it comes to design.

Therefore, RX-7 != Skyline. Apples to oranges, bud. You're trying to say that importing a car that was never sold in the US is the same as importing one that was probably very similar.

Okay I don't want any fights about the issue I just wanted as much help as I could get. The basic concept of how that guy got his car here is similar to what I've herd about sneaking a car into the u.s. he just wanted to help me by showing me someones personal experiance about getting his car here.

well homie if you bothered to read his experience, it applys to all cars because he didnt bring in the car whole, there are pics of the car disassembled, in pieces which would be exactly the same situation u have, it doesnt mater who makes the parts, parts are parts, if u do it correctly it wont matter 2 ****s who makes the car, because IT IS NOT COMMING IN AS A WHOLE CAR, you guys dont understand you are NOT importing a car, if you are then ur in for a long ride, if u can get recipts to facilitate the parts (i.e. have ur exporter write a recipt for each main component of the car, and catalog all the components in the container it will run smoothly, reguardless of who makes the car.

^ what he said. Oh I almost forgot to say this but my friend will settle for pretty much any Skyline (R32,33,and 34) just as long as It don't cost over 10-15K for it.

I'm sure there are ways that it can be done, but man...how much of a gamble do you want to take with your money?

If it's going to be a race car, then yeah - should be no problem at all. If you're planning on driving it on the street though I see nothing but problems trying to get it registered.

Tearing a car down and bringing it in piece by piece... yeah, now that's not shady at all. To each his own, but in my experience I've found that the more you have to hide the truth on something the more problems it's going to give you in the long run.

Good luck trying to find a legit importer. I have found a few so called "importers" but I have seen no proof that they can produce what I want. To list a few:

Unreal-ImportsSkyline RevolutionSky-KitSkyline-Imports sky-kit and skyline-imports are same company just two different sites (new & old)Turbo VisionsEvolution ImportsChk ImportsTakara Motors

Takara is the NICO sponsors and from what I have read (except for one post) on this forum, they are a real good company. They are the ones that I am going to look to next to get the skyline I want.

Were waiting for a response from Takara Motors on one. I've personally seen one of the tittles of one of CHK Imports skylines They are really regestered as skylines. I've been trying to find them actually. Thanks
