my friend told me the other day that his slave cylinder blew out. He had a friend replace it (the pedal has pressure) and now his car will not go into gear and it dies when he pushes the clutch in. He says "Because the car will start, you push the pedal in to put it in gear and it dies, so you have to rev the car and hold it at like 1200rpms to put it in gear, when you're moving, shifting gears, the gears stick and grind. The pressure plate won't release and when the motor turns you hear something in the transmission area grinding" anyone think they can help my friend?

thanks in advancetiger

Did you bleed the slave cylinder?

he says the pedal feels strong and feels like it was bled good.. he didn't do it, a friend did. he says there is a loud screeching noise at idle but he says it's not coming from the belts.

If the hydraulic clutch system is operating (you can tell by getting under there and having someone push in on the clutch pedal. It will travel a decent distance. Make sure you don't get rolled over by the car wheels when doing so). If it works good I would say he needs to drop the trans and check the clutch assembly. If he doesn't find anything tore up or broke in there then he probably needs a replacement transmission. Keep in mind the drive train goes all the way back to the differential and if he wasn't haveing any trouble before with the rear end, a clunk or something, then it probably isn't involved. Replacement transmissions can be found at shops where they are doing the front clip turbo swaps. They usually pull the entire KA engine and trans and replace it with the entire Japanese Silvia turbo engine and transmission set ups so they usually have some good transmissions sitting around. Also they will fix a KA clutch/transmission quick if you need an install.

he's got a mitsubishi 3000 gt but I know that most drivetrain problems are similar so i told him i'd ask some nissan friends. I think his clutch or clutch fork is messed up or the slave cylinder isn't working right.

It could be the either the slave cylinder, clutch fork, or the preasure plate itself. Could also be a throwout bearing issue. I doubt its a throwout bearing or any other internal problem cause apperentlly it was working fine before. I say check the slave cylinder again, and bleed it again. Might be a pocket of air trapped. And also see if you have a valve in between the slave cylinder and master clutch cylinder. Sometimes there is and air gets trapped before that.

UPDATE : it was the Throwout bearing...he told me the casing and the bearing was demolished.. due to high rpm shifting and hard shifting...eh... so. THanks guys!
