ok so i got the motor rebuilt and finally got it to start (figured out the distributor timing lol) . . . started it up for a few seconds , its chattering pretty loud.... is that it just needs to get oil to the valves or what?

I couldn't start it the first time either it was the distributor timing too. Ok so you added coolant, oil, did your prime the oil by putting oil in the filter, and lube the cam's,and when u rotated the engine by hand on the pulley it did turn freely. If you did then it has not gotten enough oil yet, How long did u let it run.also are your cam's stock or u upgraded, mine does chatter but not loud.also are ur lights on in the dashboard the oil one,or is it off,if it's off then it should already be prime,if not let it run till it turns off. After I did my rebuild and started the first time it chatter for about a minute or so oil light went off ,I could still hear the cams but not that loud., don't know if I'm making sence to u.

yup i primed the filter, i probably let it run for about 10-15 seconds max..... it wouldnt idle tho? but thats an easy fix..... my interior lights arent working so i dont know about the oil light...... anyone know what fuse controls interior lights????????

Did you tighten everything right, something might have came loose,if it's from the front cover, timing guides, chain tensonser, cam procket. remove your front cover, and your valve cover and look around, see anything out of place.

who rebuilt your motor???? did they use a torque wrench on everything. i made the mistake of not torqueing the rocker/cam bolts on ka24e and had a similar problem that starter with a clatter and ended with a broke cam and ruined head. its just an idea. i would also remove the valve cover (i know this sounds crazy) but start it without a valve cover and see if its acually oiling up top and that timing chain guides tensioner etc. are working properly. keep us posted. good luck i know how frustrating it can be to put your sweat, time and money into a car without sucsess. but it pays off when you find and fix your problem

on the bottom end, the machine shop did the decking and putting in the pistons, crank,n whatnot, they just assembled the bottom end..... as for the head , they decked it, checked the valves, put new valve seals in , and checked all the clearances..... i assembled the motor, == put the head, block,hg,cams,n everything in...... i aligned all of the marks correctly , but for some reason i dont think that everything is aligned right.... i dont know how it got off but it cant be off much because it will start, run for 5-10 seconds , and then dies..... also im getting some overlap (i guess from both valves being open at the same time) . . . . . . but yeah..... has anyone else had this problem? what was the problem? i just hope i havent bent a valve or anything..... ....

ps- the motor turns over smooth and pretty easy with a break bar....

valve adjustments? as in shimming? the machine shop checked the clearances , well they were supposed to but ive been told that its very very rare that the shims go bad in a ka..... this coming from someone who is a master in nissans....highest hp in a ca, top sr tuner, and has built a ka-tt..... Scott Onishi! the master LOL
