Just did an oil change using Mobil5000 & M1 Oil Filter.

Smoothed out just about everything, engine, trans, brakes, steering.

Its just that my mileage seems to have dropped badly. I haven't crunched any numbers but this is not working.

Yesterday, I took two trips, in two Qs, Same 45 mile trip. The M1 oiled Q took a whole 1/4 tank while the other Q's fuel meter moved down 2 strands of hair. Both gassed at same station to just over 1/2 tank.

Always used Valvoline 10W-40 non-syn. The M5000 oil is 10W-30 -- could that be the cause of the drop in mileage?

10W-40 is a thicker oil compared to 10W-30 so you should have had worse mile with the thicker oil.

The thinner the better with oils, more lube for the top end.

Your problem might be due to something else.

Well OK the MPG may not be all that bad with a little thicker oil.

But whats else is wrong with my first post?

My post was to the original thread starter....oil change made his transmission, brakes, steering, engine smoother-----IMPOSSIBLE

Paul your comment was correct, a 40w oil would, if measurable, show slightly lower MPG than a thinner 30w oil.

O I see.

He might have meant that the car just felt smother over all because he just had her serviced, Sort of like a placebo effect.

After the oil change, the transmission shifts more responsively, the steering is smoother, I had a slight unnoticeable vibration that I couldn't fix, now its fixed. The brakes also feel better just cause!

I may go back to Valvoline, which has always satisfied me in performance, mileage and extended OCI.

But never mind that... whats up with the decreased mileage??

Better quit smoking what the mechanic leaves in your ashtray.

OCI affects none of the phenomena you posted.

Oh man you caught me! I totally put some in the PS but I can't explain why the transmission smoother? I mean I totally didn't put it in the TRANS.

Maybe if I wasn't at work I wouldn't be wasting my time here.

Thanks anyways

Maybe because the engine is running better/smother your transmission will run better.

I haven't driven your car so I have no idea.

The power steering i have no idea either.

93 Q45 (Mafia cruiser)

94 Q45tStillen Intake, Magnaflow Dual Exhaust,

here are the poster's Qs......now. we don't know which one had the oil chjange but the gas milegae problem seem selfexplanitory.

Changing engine oil will not make a transmision smoother. It will not make brakes work betterIt will not make power steering work better.

The M1 oil may improve mileage, but only over time. Not on a short trip.

Issue fixed. Thanks. Mileage is back to an acceptable level again.

A vehicle that doesn't see oil changes very often will be smoother after a fresh oil change, its common sense and its also something you can feel in the car.

Don't matter if you disagree. I'm just telling you like it is.

BTW probably won't put the intake on unless I start craving the sound again.

Cessation of vehicular abuse seldom yields any improvements beyond the termination of the abuse.

in layman's terms of what Maxnix said:

Just change your oil often (every 3000 miles) and you wont have that feeling of "yay everything is all better" for 100 miles you will have it all the time as long as you maintain the car right.

You make the car happy and the car will make you happy.
