Well, I finally built a new motor. KA24DE. Perfect Circle gapless rings, Clivette P series bearings (10 over), turned/balanced crank...all the necessary machine work, brand new Nissan oil pump, new water pump, valve seals, ported head. Any recommendations on oil for initial start up? I'll drive it about 500 miles or so and then change the oil again so nothing too expensive. I was wondering if it would be wise to start off with say a cheap car-quest type oil and a Lucas stabilizer, or even just an in house (car-quest, etc..) synthetic and then switch to Mobil 1 after break-in? Any educated advice would be appreciated. I have lost more than one engine to improper lubrication.

Start off with cheap non synthetic oil. Run 200 miles and change oil and filter again with the cheap stuff and run another 300 miles. If you bought chrome rings like my hastings rings then you should drive it hard, not so much high revving, but heavy load to get then to seat good and fast. Check out this link. I found it after I used a very similar process.
