Okay, after replacing the control arm bushings, sway bar clamp bushings, and the sway bar end link bushings with polyurethane replacements, I replaced inner tie rod ends. Through all of this, it did not make my steering problem go away. It turns out that my problem with the sloppy steering was the damn steering rack bushings. So I now have fresh bushings for everything in the front end.
So...
After replacing all of that stuff, I got an alignment at Lockhart Cadillac where Repoman (my brother) works. My Altima was put on this crazy machine that used lasers and LEDs for the alignment process. Since I lowered the car and did not use a camber kit, my camber is out of spec. But the handling is better. My front camber is negative 3 degrees exactly on both sides and my rear camber is negative 1 degree both sides. The camber and caster is to factory spec.
BUT...
The tech informed me that my rear toe links were not adjustable now because they were rusted and that their bushings were hardened and not working properly. This would account for my clunky sound in the rear end when I go over larger bumps. My next project will be to start working on the rear suspension.
For right now I have my winter wheels on (stock 15 inch 88 maxima alloys and brand new Kuhmo 716 Ecsta HP4 in 205/60 15). The tires kick arse and the ride is awesome. No vibration at all even up to 90 mph. It is hard to believe as my car just turned over 237,000 miles this weekend.
But the rear suspension will be next.
