built top to bottom even has a greddy pan....all seals were replace. I'm losing oil somewhere. No spots in the driveway. I believe I'm over 600 miles and I was breaking it in with straight 10w30 (non-syn). Anyway started ticking a bit....so I check the oil...it got low...now could the rings still not have set yet...and oil is blowing past them? Or is it the cometic headgasket? everything is under 3 months run. I'm changing the oil today...2nd time ever (it's a brand new motor basically)...and running one more cycle of 10w30 non syn in it and changing the oil filter. I would like to know if anyone has had these issues before. I don't see alot of noticeable smoke..but then again I never drive behind myself it could be puffing on shifts? Anyway I'd like to get it figured out...maybe one of you have an idea. It's a lot of money to end up with oil starvation...and building the bottom again because of a leak or possibly a machine shops error in assembling the bottom end (rings?)

Do a compression test and check your coolant to see if there is something besides coolant in there.

I'm going to be changing the oil today ...so I'll make sure nothing's mixing. I'm also going to be buying some more coolant too...the stuff I buy is like 16 bucks a gallon...it's supposed to be specifically for racing.

sounds like either rings havnt set or your HG is leaking. But burning that much oil you should see it out the exhuast.

I don't see why the rings wouldn't have set good by now...doesn't make sense. And I don't really know about cometic. Apparently enjuku sells them ...so they should be good? I dunno..it's pissing me off. I really don't want to break this thing down AGAIN....that ****'s no fun.

Did you put the two front bolts back in the head? I was leaking oil and sure enough those bolts were missing.

yeah...I did put them back in. I do have some dirty **** coming from there though...but not enough to make that many quarts of oil disappear.

In my experience, a fresh build will always eat some oil. There are a lot of oil galleys that get cleaned out and fresh oil has to move into those places.

A friend of mine was quoted saying that he used to build L series motors that would have a 5 quart capacity, but the motor would take 7 quarts on the rebuild. Or something to that effect

Very true. Think you have turbo lines and all the feeds in the block and in the head and in the oil pick up itsself. Im sure it would be atleast a quart or more right there.

Like I said if your rings or HG were bad youd see a lot of burning oil and a milky looking coolant.

well...I didn't get around to it today...I guess we'll find out tomorrow. I'm totally off work...gonna fire one up and get to crackin on it. lmfao. I talked to a buddy who owns a shop to that did some fab work for me ...he said he's buying a leakdown tester too...so if the oil problem persists...we'll take further action. I'm pretty sure the race bearings are fine though....I haven't been on it since I first noticed it anyway...the clutch is going again...just replaced it. Need a heavy duty clutch...this guy was supposed to sell me his blitz single he had but hasn't replied lately...kinda pissing me off.
