basic question...I have a fully built blacktop. Now I've heard something about cometic headgaskets leaking...I'm not sure if that's my problem I haven't seen any big noticeable leaks...anyway I've done probably at least 600 miles maybe 1000miles on the motor since it was installed. It seems like it's burning oil. I checked it the other day and it was below the low line. Funny thing is I have all brand new seals and I don't ever see an oil spot beneath my car...so what would that mean? Have the rings still not seated fully so it's blowing oil past the rings and burning it in the combustion and out through the exhaust? I'm trying to understand this ....it's not making sense. If it comes down to the rings ...then a local shop owes me some labor..because they assembled the bottom end. Either way I don't want to run that much money on low oil and I'd really like to figure out where all the oil (I have a greddy pan too) is going. my email is [email protected] anyone feels like emailing me...if not then I guess I'll just check here to see if someone replies?

so over 1000 miles its burned over a quart of oil?? That seems excessive, normally when your at the bottom of the hashed marks means youre a quart low, as the dipstick only goes a tiny bit into the oil pan (duh)...

if its that much oil burning DUE to the rings, it should be blowing blue smoke AND id think itd show up on a compression test....

I once built a real oil burner/drinker. Got in a hurry and oriented one ring on each piston "upside down". After I realized it was an oil gulper, I reread the instructions that came with the ring set.

DUH!!!! Haste makes do-do!
