Fresh air vents blowing hot?

I have a question/issue that's bothered me for a while.

I have an 07 Versa, about 28000 miles. I've noticed that when I run the blower, just pulling in fresh air and no heat (the dial turned all the way to cool, no a/c) the air seems very warm. This is particularly true if the car has been in the sun at all, but even as I drive for a long time it does not cool off. Sometimes it even feels like it gets hotter, and it never feels as cool as the air that's outside. Is this normal?

mine does this too.....I think it has to do where the fresh air is pulled in from

before my hot air vents started blowing fresh (which the dealer STILL hasn't figured out how to fix, by the way), i also noticed that the "fresh" air was sort of warm.

My car is the same way and at first I thought it was just the large dark dash surface that was heating up but then on cooler days I have the same problem!

Does anyone know exactly where it is pulled from? I tried looking through the service manual to find it, but was unsuccessful. Would it be possible to extend the cabin air intake to a fresher location?

I'm not sure if I'm relieved to know it seems to be a universal/widespread problem, so there's nothing wrong with my car, or if I'm disappointed that it seems to be a universal problem, so there's nothing wrong with my car (which I could then get fixed)!

Thanks all for responding.

The service manual shows the intake being above and just to the side of the cabin air filter. It is on the cowl which is a high pressure area. No way to get fresher cooler air. The service manual also shows that when the switch is set to fresh air, all airflow is routed through the heater core. My guess is that either it is a faulty heater core, or a poorly designed heater core causing the problem. I hate having to use the AC when temps are in the 70's

bingo! this is great info. i am expecting a call today from the regional nissan rep regarding their lack of a clue as to what is wrong with my heater. i'll print out this thread and tell them about the warm fresh air issue, too.

All, I got my V in the dead of winter (Dec '07), so I took a drive yesterday and experimented with the controls. I found that if I turned the temp dial all the way down into the blue section -- not in the neutral position (at 12 o'clock) which seems most logical, that I got the coolest air. I also found it necessary to at least turn the fan on '1' to get a decent amount of air flow. It doesn't seem to readily supply outside air, as my former vehicles did, by simply turning the "slider" to fresh air. Come the middle of summer, I suppose that I'll also need to push the air conditioning button. This vehicle would be great with a sensor that automatically regulated a temperature that you set, or, a better fresh air intake, imho!!!
