I have noticed that my M has not been blowing air as cold as it used to. I have to put it on 60(d) at full to stay comfortable.

Has anyone ever refilled their Freon? Can we go to AutoZone, etc. and buy the R134A recharge kit and use it on an '06 M35 Sport?

Nissan-Infiniti A/C systems are very reliable. The Fan Control Amplifier may fail but I never have had that in my Infinitis. Your A/C system could be an exception. Check your dealership if it is still covered by basic warranty.

Topping off with freon is not recommended (your warranty may also be affected). The system must be evacuated first and then the required amount of refrigerant and oil added for optimum operation. This is not for a regular DIY. It is illegal to discharge freon into the atmosphere. You need A/C manifold gauge, vacuum pump, reservoir, etc., to service the A/C.

I notice you are in Texas, it could just be the summer... I took a trip to the river (Laughlin, NV and Needles, CA) and it was 100 degrees minimum, 120 in the desert more. It took about 20x longer for my air to get to a cold temperature on that trip than it does where I live in southern California. With the sun beating down on the car and ambient temps so high, it just takes a long time cause the car is so hot. Even in So Cal it has been super hot here lately, mid 90s, and yesterday and today it is 100, and it takes a bit longer to get cool. So if it has been as hot as the deserts over here in Texas, then most likely it is just summer heat and nothing is really wrong.

There are too many sensors in the AC system in the M to blindly throw R134a into the circuit and it only operate with 1.21lbs with one of those generic kits make regulating charge amount difficult if not impossible.

The possible outcome of this is actually warmer outlet temperature. If the pressure sensor detects too much pressure it will cut the compressor signal. The V-6 variable displacement compressor can accomodate the normal increase in pressure that occurs from normal refrigerant expansion, but I do not think it has the capability to compensate for an overcharge. Also you may want to try to look between the radiator and condenser for any leaves or debris that may have found their way into that area.

Air Conditioning repair should really be left to the professionals, ideally those of us who are certified in refrigerant handling and operation of J1990 recovery and recharging machines.

There are some things the weekend mechanic can do to optimize the efficiency of their air conditioning system without getting into the sealed circuit. You can check the condenser in from of the radiator for debris. Leaves, bugs and other objects that make it past the grill usually find a new home in the fins of the condenser. If the condenser is restricted it will not allow the heat exchange that the system needs for ideal operation.

Cars with a dark exterior color tend to absorb more heat and the pressures tend to get very high when the ambient temperature is very high and the car is sitting in the sun. This makes for a very uncomfortable experience. I would recommend whenever possible seek shelter for your car when the sun is the strongest.

Thanks guys for the feedback. I will consider all of these and will def. clean the compressor area.

Cheers

My M35 started blowing warm air out of the blue on Tuesday (27 July) when i was on my lunch break. I live in San Antonio. It was intermittent and i scheduled an appointment with Gunn Infiniti. It was the only time it happened when i turned the car in. Gunn than called me and told me that my AC was working fine. They asked for specific information on what was happening. I told them and 6 hours later they called me and informed me that the ac started blowing hot air for like 25 seconds.

They're going to run some more tests and fix my car. It's under warranty until Dec, 2012..so I'm not mad. I would take it to an Infiniti dealer and have them take a look at it. It gets too hot here for the AC to be acting up...and South Texas has already set a record for triple digit temps for the summer already!

I hope this helps somewhat!
