I have a freon leak in the evaporator coil or attachment plumbing can the plasticcover be separated in the car or do I need to remove the whole assembly.

I currently have all of the screws out and can pry it open about 4 inches but I can not get it apart. Any info instructions would be great,

I put a can of dye in the system looking for the leak and I have dayglo green dripping out of the condensate line under the car

No but it is out and I am going to bed, You have to remove the 2 fittingsin the engine compartment and some mount bolts inside and the plastic housing and evap coil slide out as one .

I did not need to remove the blower motor I did find the below instructions on another web site .

10.Remove the evaporator assembly as follows:A. Disconnect the high and low pressure tubes from the evaporator assembly.B. Disconnect the harness connector from the blower motor resistor (as necessary).C. Remove and save all mounting hardware.D. Remove the evaporator assembly.

I found the leak and it can not be repaired, I will go with rock auto foreverything evap coil, expansion valve and drier I am glad it is winter here in Florida only low to mid 80s. The coil was partially clogged at the bottom I don'tthink it looked that bad for the age. the fittings and pipes look calcified/and flaking. I will report back when the job is completed.

FYI I reinstalled everything temporarily and took pictures for the how to.Since then I have received the parts but had to undergo an unexpected surgery.I am not suppose to do anything physical for 5 weeks. will photograph the install when the time arrives.
