How do you put them in the block? Do they just get pounded in??

Hmmm I've never done it before, but a quick google search found a special tool for it:

Although it looks like this tool is mainly used to help you reach freeze plugs that are in difficult areas, not install plugs on an engine that is on a stand. I could be wrong though... Hope this helps!

I know its a newb q but what is a freeze plug? is it just a plug to block an oil line?

on the sides of engine blocks there are round plugs. believe they plug coolant jackets

They don't really plug anything per se. They are on the side of the block, so if the coolant freezes, the expanding water will push out on the metal, and the freeze plugs give. This newfound hole allows the ice to expand outside the block, preventing the block from physically cracking in half. -Jeff

I run straight water with water wetter 9 months out of the year. Florida though. However, antifreeze can only protect so far. -40* or so?-Jeff

I used I tool that looked surprisingly like a socket at the machine shop I worked at. Put a little silicone around the edge and then just pound it in flush. Make sure it is straight when you hit it in. Very easy to install

dont freeze plugs just plug the hole that were used for casting? and the occational freezing coolant :P
