I'm unemployed with no income (as in I'm not taking unemployment comp) and I've got very little money...but plenty of time!

Wanting to keep myself busy, and aware that my car probably has a whole list of things that could be done for free, I decided I'd get some opinions on stuff to do while i'm sitting around.

My car is bone stock, and a little bit rust on the underside, as well as quite a few dings and dents on the outside.

Things I can think of:

Timing Chain Guide Rattle Fix - Simply remove the guides and I'll need a bottle of RTV?

Pull up the carpet to inspect the floorboards?

Clean the interior...sorta already did this

Install Tein S-Tech springs on stock struts (I got the springs for free).

Any other suggestions?

If you're going to pull the carpet you could give it a good cleaning and dye it( if it needs it). It's pretty cheap, I helped my friend dye his carpet in his jetta black and it made the interior look so much cleaner.

Some other cheap/free things to do... clean the throttle body, check to see if your wide open throttle is 100%, and give it a good wash?

Hmmm 10 applications over 3 days and no calls? Every day putting in another 2 applications? The economy in a recession and most companies on hiring freeze...

But you could be smart asses about it and get a good laugh.

My pappy always told me that finding a job is a full-time job. You have zero free time.

If you don't have any luck finding a conventional 9-5'er, you could look into making money online...

- Take your time and inspect your car. Since you have all that free time, take things apart and examine.- Get to know your car.- Fix all the little "knickle and dime" things that many people just put off in favor of big mods.- Make a list of things you will need/want to do. After you have inspected.- Focus on making the car solid first and modded later ( all the mods in the world wont matter if your car keep breaking down from stupid things )- apply at walmart

I was on the same boat as you last year, I had plenty of sand paper lying around my garage so I just down my interior so when I got a job, I could paint it.

Like the post before, do all the little things you can now. Which mostly consist of cleaning.

I took some of my parts off and just cleaned them, borrowed a pressure washer and had soap so I just went at it. Obviously you wont be able to do many big things but the little things end up adding up and make your car look that much better.

Were hiring. One Call concepts. We locate underground utility's. New people start a 13 and get paid training and a truck with a gas card. You will also be in your area. Atleast call them and see if they serve your area.

We locate all the utility's for Verizon, Comcast, your local water business and your local electric suppler. We prevent people from gettin blowed up when digging in the ground. Its easy as poop. All you need is a some what good driving record and a license. You get paid training. They will teach you everything. You go out everyday by yourself and do this. I meet up with friends and we knock it all out together.Heres a s***ty video. Its ALOT more fun then this video makes it out to be.

I'm with these guys, I live in Butler, PA and when all the layoff and shut downs were happening, we were having a damn job fair. LOL I work for Armstrong Cable and do tech support. Let me tell you, there is no shortness of stupid people needing their internet fixed. You don't need to be a geek to do this job. They teach you everything. Right now I'm sitting at my desk watching the Pens game and getting paid.

+1 for the Wire tuck. Free if you have wire wrap and electric tape. I like the spiral wire wrap, gives the cleanest look.Rust inspection is also a must.

I'm actually in school 18 credits per semester, and its a traditional schedule of classes that are all over the place...and that the difficulty of my situation.

If I were applying for a full-time long term position, I could probably find a job easy, but because I'm essentially applying for full-time for 3 months and then part time for 8 months, it makes it difficult to get the employers attention.

I went to school for 3 semester out of high school, dropped out, worked full time for 2 years, and then went back to school full time. I know about working. I also had a job working for a military contractor (EDS) doing computer staging for a summer. I made more money in that summer than I've ever made in 3 months! Up until recently, I was working off the money I made two summer ago. The most difficult part of going to school full time is getting money in your spare time. I've never had any luck finding a job that allowed me to work a flexible schedule that paid over $9 an hour.

I've never considered bar tending or serving, but I think that's my only option at this point.

It's difficult to tell an employer that you cant work 8am-5pm, and you need a solid 2-4 hours a day to study towards the end of the semester, and you may have a constantly changing schedule on top of it.

So while yes, I get awesome financial aid (actually my entire senior year will be paid for with grants and scholarships), I'll also need money to fund my life outside of college.
