My brother just bought an 89 240 coupe for cheap cause it had a couple problems, (steering rack boot and ball joints) but thats not what i need help with. It came with 17 inch aftermarket enkei's on them but the front right tire is stuck on because the lug stud came loose and you cant remove the lug nut it just spins with the stud. we were going to try and cut it but it wont come out far enough on the front and the backing plate or whatever it is for the brakes blocks access from behind. Any suggestions on getting it/the wheel off?

Months later....

I got hit with same problem. I hacked up the brake shield to get at the lug to clamp it with no success. I would hate to think that it's impossible to get it out.

This is probably resolved by now....but in case anyone else has this kind of problem all you have to do is drill out the stud. Just drill right through the top of the lug nut right into the stud.

It may be easier to start with a smaller bit like 1/8th (or less) and then work your way up.

If the drill bit "grabs" the stud and starts spinning it (what you're hoping for actually), you're home free. Just stick an open end wrench over the lug nut and it may just unscrew itself as you're spinning the stud with the drill. If it doesn't, just keep increasing your bit size until you've drilled away the stud.

Also, a little oil will help to keep you from burning up/dulling your drill bits.
