When you go to the dealer to get your free oil changes does the dealer say anything to you about the mods to your car? Such as injen intake?

You can buy it as a warranty plan or its an incentive with the car. It was offered to me for 1400 bucks for all kinds of labor done over the next 3 years, but I care to much about what kind of oil I'm running to do that

I get my first check up for free :D. I go in August 8th (3 months of owning car that day) or when I hit 3225 miles.

Usually most dealership I go to offer the first service to be free.

The Free Oil Change for Life Program:

They buy filters by the case @ 2 bucks a pop. Hopefully, they are Nissan filters, but there's no guarantee of that.

They throw in crap oil from a 50 gal drum which has plenty of time to absorb moisture from the air or other contaminants.

They let their most junior mechanics/apprentices do the work, which may result in the oil pan drain bolt being under- or over- tightened, same with the filter, and the engine oil being under- or over- filled. For the test drive, they start up your car and gun it, when it has no oil in the system.

And to top it off, you may find greasy fingerprints on the steering wheel, or greasy footprints on the floormat.

But it's FREE!!

Thanks, but no thanks.

I've changed thousands of gallons of oil in cars and motorcycles for more years than I care to admit. There's not much skill involved, just being careful and organized. I would recommend latex gloves, a long-neck funnel, a filter wrench, and a handle drain/jug which allows you to capture and transport the used oil in a single container.

However, I got tired of sticking my head under a 3-4 thousand pound vehicle, so now I don't do it anymore. If you have a good Dealer you trust, great. Otherwise my advice is to find a good local mechanic or even a gas station you can develop a relationship with. Get to know them on a personal basis, and they'll know you as a good reliable customer and they'll take care of you. Bring whatever oil you want to use, and bring 'em some donuts once in a while! Even something as simple as an oil change can go very wrong with an inexperienced person.

BTW, how can I get a nifty by-line under my handle like you admins?

I believe this quote from another thread may be relevant here...

So, I guess I can add to my list that the FREE oil changes are done last...
racingtiger03 wrote:no sir, the nissan dealership changed it. So if they fugged it up, thats even more reason that something should get taken care of. And seeing that whoever changed my oil managed to give me a nice scratch under the handle (dealer did take care of that for me somewhat though) I wouldnt doubt using the wrong viscosity or not putting enough in, beyond them =/ .. I hate dealer oil changes.. it took them 2 hours to change my oil and balance the tires -.- (3 people were in and out before me, one for brakes warranty sedan recal, the other for an oil change, and the other for the pcm retune due to the emissions thing *shrug*) If it woudlnt have been free, I wouldve done it myself lol.

I have to admit Howard, I do agree with you on this topic. I think I did my first oil change when I was 8. Its rather easy and it saves you a good amount of time and money. You can drain your oil and change your filter before you eat dinner, let it all drain out while your eating, and tigthen/fill everything back up when your done eating! You have the piece of mind everything was done correctly and you saved money. Dinner and an oil change

that might be true but as busy as I am its nice to have that option of getting it changed every time for nothing and if they do tend to screw something up its not like they aren't going to admit it and step up and repay you or give discounts or incentives...just a thought

You don't really want me to post more, LBC. You should give me one just to keep me quiet.

I did just put up an excellent detailed suggestion on maintaining your A/C.

That's it? Give you a label so you'll stop being a jerkoff? Nice, sounds like a deal . This is the first knowledgeable post I've seen you make. You should try doing more of this and less of the, "I'm pissed off at the world because I was born before microwaves" disorder you have going on for you now

Mr. Jaffe, I'm a police officer. Is that a threat? I take threats very seriously.

I'm sure I've seen much worse things than you will ever see. Ever seen a steering wheel column go through your best friends chest one week before high school graduation? no, I think not. Ever seen a family of four thrown on the pavement and every single one killed except the newborn? no I think not. Quit complaining about everyone elses comfortable lives while you sit on your *** all day and play WOW and jack off.

I sat back and laughed before when you insulted everyone elses posts, but that went too far.

Go F*CK yourself Howie.

Oh, I am just trembling with fright.

You have no jurisdiction on this Nissan Message Board 'Ben'. And if you actually are a LEO, you know that any misuse of your position, such as your posted statement, can cause a great deal of damage to your very short career.

I hope you're not on shift right now, because I personally know of an officer who was fired for posting to a message board while on duty.

Why all the hostility toward me? I did not personally attack anyone. I am merely responding to 3 unprovoked posts with negative remarks from other members. They are documented in this thread.

I was more than prepared to sit back and quietly participate on this board when all this started.

I can only assume that if my remarks are so out of line, they would not have drawn the response that they did.

Nighttrain,

I personally think that you're missing the point of the forum. In general, what i've seen is a regular and persistent sarcasm when reading your posts. And, unfortunately, the vast majority of your posts have been very limited on their applicable value to others. Not saying all posts have to have some valuable point, but having a negative/sarcastic perspective on a regular basis isn't helping anyone, including you (Unless you get some pleasure in it).

Part of being a "Good" member is trying to keep the misunderstandings down, avoid conflicts, add value, and in general, keep the peace. And, unfortunately, the vast majority of your posts have missed these objectives.

On the other side of the coin, I don't think for a minute that a ban or additional "personal" conflict adds any value to any individuals time on this forum. If you want to be part of the team, act like it. There is room here for cutting it up, joking, and even sarcasm, but you have to earn the right to be direct, blunt, and I dare say, rude around here. The reaction from the young, innocent children is nothing that, I suspect, a number of us "Older" and Less-"Innocent" members are feeing when we read your posts, we may be just a bit more deliberate with our responses or comments.

Finally, e-mail, forums, and IM type communications are often prone to misunderstanding (and, hence, conflict). So, there is a remote chance that you're just misunderstood and truly innocent in this situation yourself. Hell, i'll even give you the benefit of the doubt. But, take a good long look at yourself first, and if after that you still think you're not at least half of the problem, maybe it would be a good time to turn a new leaf and contribute, or call it quits and move on to another forum more in tune with your perspective.

.......

BTW - My perspective: I happen to agree with Nightrain on the Fully Loaded choice ..... it's what I bought (See thread: http://forums.altimas.org/zerothread/348713). But, in addition to that, I have to admit that even the fully loaded version or our cars needs some work. Basically Nissan missed some really obvious things when making this car (And, this should be expected from a first generation vehicle).

The exterior is one of the things the they missed IMHO. Nothing some grill work, a lip, a wing, and some wheels/tires won't overcome.

.........

And, finally, returning to the original discussion point on this thread, my dealer doesn't get to do much with this car unless it's clear warranty work. Even then, I too have been challenged by the dealer as to warranty impacts of my mods, to which I respond, politely, but firmly: "Try to follow that up with Magnuson-Moss ..." (Basically, "Prove It") and "Do you want my business or not?". Very often (Since, I see different service advisors when I visit), the first response results in confused stares ... the second one clears up the problem.

Two cents (Sorry, more like 52 cents),-- Wind

I've been back and forth. Use to change my own oil. Then I'd just take it to the local Avis lube.

Now I'm back to doing it myself. I love working on cars occasionally, but I find oil changes to be a pain in the ***.

Avis kept signing off on the battery fluid as ok in my Civic because it was a "non-serviceable" battery. I checked the "serviceable" battery and found no fluid in 3 of the holes.

That's my fault for assuming I guess.
