anyone know of any freebies on the 5.6? some people talk of removing a screen inside the intake track, and also bypassing the coolant through the t/b. do any of these help or hurt? what about doing a 2 degree timing advance. got a tech that could do it at the dealership for about $40. the truck moves pretty good but would like to try something new w/o having to buy a power programmer. all ive got on it so far is a k&n panel filter b/c a full intake wasnt available yet. would also consider a custom exhaust, b/c there is no substancial aftermarket support, if it would be beneficial. thanks.

Just remember, why would the factory do certain things if it was detrimental to HP or gas mileage?

The screen on the intake before the MAF makes the flow more laminar so that the MAF gets an accurate reading.. The coolant going by the TB makes it so that the TB doesnt get gunked up as fast...

Take your exhaust off and run open headers... at least it will sound cool.

I would check out Titan forums they would have the best idea as they all deal with the VK56 and there are some pretty serious trucks on there. Headers and exhaust is the easiest power upgrade, I didn't know nissan had the VK56 in the pathfinder. Its not available over here yet and considering Australia is keen on their V8's it would make sense to offer it here.

Overall most decent factory engines have very few factory restrictions standard as most manufactures try to get the best economy and power for their goal and as there is no 280hp rule in japan anymore they are not under powering engines near as much, if your keen, headers and full exhaust with a 2.3L whipple twin screw supercharger would be a mean set up though you looking at a fair bit of money. I personally hate un intercooled forced induction but even unintercooled you could probs run around 8psi fine without worrying about detonation which should be more than enough for well over 420rwhp and more if intercooled.

Stillen make a kit though its a bit pricey and GReddy were going to but they went out of biz so don't know if they are liquidating or going to be sold off.

Sorry I couldn't be more help, I'd just try the titan forums as people mostly deal with the VH45 here, there is only one project with a VK56 that I know of on the forum, you could always ask that guy, look for VK56 Buggy as the title.

the coolant is to warm the TB with the motor in cold climates from what I've heard.

the screen is at the TB not anywhere within a foot of the MAF how would that effect it's readings?

custom exhaust is STUPID easy. as for intakes, I'm 90% sure u could make one of the titan intakes work. it's pretty basic of a setup imo and from what I've heard the new Xterra's can use the same intake and they're only a 4L v6 so I'd imagine the v8 pathy could VERY easily use one if at very least u need to slighty trim the piping to fit. so long u keep the diameter of the pipe AT THE MAF the same as stock (which most of the titan intake kits are) would be a good idea to keep readings accurate on velocity/amount of air.

2* timing makes a difference but not as much as say a programmer or even intake really imo. knowing how nissan likes to reuse parts I'd wager ur TB is the same as that on a titan, so u can even get a titan model TBS, THAT is the main time titan guys remove the screen from the TB. not just to remove it...

I have a titan, I have intake, TBS (screen removed) custom exhaust (headers are on order through a fugled group buy with never ending delays) and a programmer. so my truck has a few mods, and I have to say the single best bang for buck so far is the programmer, the bully dog power pup (what I have) can be used to add 2* timing to almost any later model nissan/infinity including altimas, titans, frontiers, xterras, Q56s, Maxima's really I don't know of any late models it CAN'T do the 2* on. and u don't need to lock it to the vehicle so u can do as many peoples rides as u can fine who want to pay u for it but for tuning well the ONLY custom tuning is UPREV... good luck :D
