Unfortunately, I'm writing this thread in terms of experience, not second hand knowledge. I recently had all my stereo system taken away from me. I know that they wroke in for my sub, and eventually took my deck, amp and even my burnt CDs......

Anyway, I know that the only way they got in is through the hatch. I did it myself before, a couple times actually. I dont want to say how, to protect others, but I do want to share how to prevent this w/o destroying your car.

If you open your hatch, take the rear panel off and look to the right of the latch, you'll see a metal cable. This cable is the line you open when you lift the latch. Simply snip this cable off and you're set. This works for people with alarm systems too, unless the sensors are set on the cable, which isnt really possible....nevermind.

Doing this disables your trunk release latch. I know that it may be a problem, but you can always open your hatch using your keys. This way, they cant break into your car easy enough to steal whatever.

Just trying to help~!

PS - this suggestion should only be done at your own discretion, I am not responsible for any damages that you or your cars might encounter. >:)

I shaved the handles on my car, and I have used this method to break into it when I blew the fuse. It is very easy on S13's so if you guys are paranoid you might want to do it.

No, by putting a coat hanger above the window, and pulling up the hatch release. I don't know how the fuse blew but I wired the fuse inside the car(stupid me) when I should have wired it to be under the hood.

Ok, so if the cable is cut, it will prevent them from opening thehatch, but what's preventing them from just folding the seatsdown and going through there? I believe the hatches have moreroom to work with when hatch is down.

I have a coupe, as well I have CP triangulated bars, so there'sno way possible for them to get to my box in the trunk, unlessthey use the trunk release.

This would work for coupe guys with strut bars in the rear.

Nonetheless, a good tip for those extra cautious.

The main reason why you want to cut the cable is because that's how they get in. They slip a wire hanger in the window and snag the hatch lever. Once the hatch is open, then they'll just come in through the trunk. It's much easier for them that way. The door locks are too hard to pick. Even a blacksmith would take a good 30-45 mins, and that was with my mom's tercel and with permission. That means, if they wanted to steal things that way, they'd have more pressure and less concentration to work on the door locks. Another method theives use is the slim-jim. Its a long, thin, flexible sheet of metal that's sturdy enough to pull the lock rod/slot up, BUT I THINK it only applies to the cars with push down locks on the doors. Our cars have a side door lock, so I'm not sure if that works too.

PS - this info is provided with the intent to PREVENT possible theft, not encourage it~! Please dont use my knowledge to rip people off!

Or they can just do what they did to me last weekend and break out your tinted passenger side door window and use a finger to manually unlock the door. :P

Damn thieves.

Yeah, it sucks... $230 for the new window that STILL doesn't fit quite right after two swaps... need to get new tint too... but I guess the bright side is I have the money to shopping spree and buy all new stuff.

Hello, mp3 deck, new sub and amp. You are my new best friends.

i have accidentally rippped off the little hooks to fold down these rear seats LOL. cuz you know how you have to pull up and to the side? yeah well i did that and they just came flying off!!! so the only way to fold down the seats is to use the pliers, and you gotta get it just right then hold then pull at an angle! hah, hows that for antitheft huh?>

bud whats a weight reduction?
