Fred, I am planning on doing an oil change on my Jeep Cherokee this week. It will be the first time I have changed the oil in it and I don't have any previous service records. It is a 4.0L I6 with about 102,000 miles on it. Should I go with a syn oil? Since I don't know what has been used in the past I am a little unsure whether to go syn or not. Also what weight would you recommend for the late fall and early winter here in Indy? The maintenance manual recommends a 10w30 most of the year and a 5w30 during the winter. Thanks for your input.

If you are willing to go syn:The 4.0 likes a bit thicker oil.So we have GC 0w-30 or M1 0w-40 to choose from.

If you decide for an economy oil change, Chevron Supreme 5w-30, best of the Dinos for the money ( $1.11 and a group II+, oil better stock than some of the brand name dinos that go for almost $2)

Thanks for the reply and info Fred. Looks like I have to stop to pick up a case of oil on my way home tonight.
