alright Fred,it is time to hear the story of your ownership experience with your new q! You frequently posted about the anticipation of getting it,and have been silent about the car since you received it,other than the recent post regarding the tail light problem.Where are all the kill stories about racing the street punks, etc that you used to talk about when you had your last q?I assume something must be verry wrong with your current Q,due to the lack of posting, especially considering all the mods this one has had done to it.I assume that you are being your humble self not exposing any serious problems in some strange way to protect the former owner, who started NICO.I have felt something wasn't right due to your lack of great kill story history, and caught a post of yours on another sight that made me want to know whats up! Hope all is well,or heading in that direction!

Alright,

You surmised correctly in that I wasn't willing to post negative things.

The car as delivered had some problems most notably a very sloppy installation of a bad engine.

Other minor problems were all result of the sloppy install.

Rex is a good guy and I almost felt bad to tell him all of this because he had been so obviously excited getting me a great car with great mods at a good price (great price if you appreciate the mods)..:(

He agreed to pay for a good used engine (he almost went with a new one), as well as the cost I quoted him for T3 engine installation.

Even though he could have had a reinstall, probably for free, at the original shop, but he didn't want to do anything at that same shop that screwed it up the first time.

Also clearly the engine he had paid for was, substandard, none of his fault.

I have had the car 5 days now with the new motor, and it runs strong.Have some problems with the ECU which inexplicably is unwilling to rev beyond 6500 rpm, when I got the car originally I thought this was due to weak motor.

I was thinking its because it has a NOS setting, maybe to protect engine, but no matter what I do, no matter which switches I push, it shifts at 6500.

It's a JWT ECU and is not performing as advertised.Which is why I am looking for 2 ECU's now.One to keep my car running while I sen otehr one tto JWT.With this another ECUand tell 'em to switch the piggy back, to my good ECU and throw away the other one.

But Rex is a stand-up guy and none of this is his fault and he took all steps to make it right at his expense.

Fred...:)

Sounds like Rex is the man! The best test of any business or person is the way they handle things after the deal is done! You must have gotten a great deal on that used engine to pass on that crate-damaged new one that was on eBay!

Why not just keep running the current ECU while you send one off to JWT? Are there other issues besides the rev limiter?

Could JWT possibly diagnose and fix the poorly performing one? Might be simple as just re-flashing the chip. Just ideas to save you some $$...

Fred, glad to hear the q is on the way to recovery! I knew something was seriously wrong, and glad to hear things are working out. Will your finished car still have NOS? what other goodies will it have besides the great "bones" of being a Q?I look forward to hearing about the road to recovery, and the famous kill storys of yours!

Rex IS the man! I got the honor and privilege of meeting him at the Indianapolis meet about a month and a half or more ago. He really is as awesome as Fred makes him out to be, as well and VERY knowlegable. I was impressed with the founder of NICO. :)

I <did> get a good deal on a used VH45DE.53k miles from a non business seller on ebay (who had bought it to fix his 92 w/ guide busted engine, but was wrong engine for a 92).

T3 says it's "clean as a whistle inside"; quote is from Byron, Senior T3 technician.

I got to check out the new and improved Q last Friday when Fred got back from picking his car up.The install looks to be top notch. There is something about a nice Q45 that just makes me smile. It took about 40 min of driving my company car(03 Vibe) home that nite for the smile to wear off.LOLI need to get some photo's of the Mean Green Machine and post them up for Mr. Palmer soon.

:D

Not quite,... but it was a bit worse for wear, after multilple runs with a 175 shot.
