Update:

Its been fixed, and it works! $15 in parts.

I put 100 miles on it so far, and its working well. Parts were $15. Labor was a lot of tedious soldering. I didnt do the soldering of course, otherwise it would be in the garbage.

That is for sure! Really, this stuff is bad. I have repaired one antenna, and lubricated the antenna on my second Q, and they both continue to work without WD-40.

Don't use WD-40 on almost anything - unless it is all metal & no paint. It contains chlorinated hydrocarbons (so do most carb cleaners and brake cleaners) which degrade most all (non-flourinated) plastics. Buy alternatives that say they are "non-chlorinated", they are becoming more common.

I used a white slicon lub on the coiled nylon part that pushes the mast up and down, works great. Did the same on the mast. After lowering and raising it I wiped off the excess.
